Colwyn Netball Club are using their time in lockdown to raise some money for a local hospice whilst keeping fit at the same time.
The club has invited its 70 members to participate in walking 1000 miles and aims to raise £2020 for St David’s Hospice. They started the walking in April and will continue through to the end of June. One member walked the equivalent of Hadrian's Wall in a virtual course over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Jemma Crutchlow-Porter, Press Officer for Colwyn Netball said: “St David’s is a fantastic local charity and at least two of our members work for the Hospice, so we wanted to show our support during this difficult time.
“As a club, we've decided to challenge our members to put their athletic abilities to good use. It's a great way to help our local Hospice whilst abiding by the Government's social distancing guidelines.”
“We hope the funds and awareness raised go some way to contributing towards the huge financial shortfall St David’s Hospice is facing due to Covid-19.”
St David’s Hospice faces a challenge every year to raise over 75% of the £4 million annual running costs, but due to Covid-19, this year’s it faces huge financial issues. The Hospice has had to close all of its charity shops, put all the vital fundraising events on hold with a £1 million loss.
