Colwyn Bay are delighted to have agreed terms for next season with former Middlesbrough and Gateshead defender Lewis Sirrell.

The 26-year-old now lives in Old Colwyn, but comes originally from the North East where he came through Middlesbrough's Academy, playing for the U18s and U21s, before going on loan to Conference side Gateshead.

He then signed for Swedish club Ostersunds FK on a free transfer, but admits he fell out of love with the game for a while after struggling with his release from Middlesbrough, and he relocated to North Wales in 2014.

He had a few games for Colwyn Bay Reserves, under Chris Thompson, in the 2014/15 season and had spells at Llandudno Junction and Denbigh Town to rekindle his appetite for the game, prior to signing for Llandudno last year.

Lewis played in both Llandudno's games against Colwyn Bay during the past campaign.Primarily a left-footer he can play in central defence or midfield.

Lewis commented: "I'm really happy to have agreed terms with Colwyn Bay. It is a big club heading in the right direction and I am looking forward to working with the players and management team. I hope to play my part in us challenging for the title next season and being part of a successful club."

Manager Craig Hogg added: " We are very pleased to welcome Lewis to the football club. Lewis is a left footed centre back who can also operate in midfield and he was one of the stand out performers for Llandudno last season and became an interest to us.

"He has had a really good football education during his time at Middlesbrough, Gateshead and in Sweden.

"He made it clear that he was very eager to join the Bay upon the conclusion of the season and, after speaking to him, he is clearly excited by what we want to do here. We are delighted he has agreed terms to join us.

"He is a strong player with some excellent qualities and joins a very strong group of players. There is a real desire from everyone at the club to now build on last season, kick on and win trophies - and Lewis certainly holds that same view."
