The Seagulls will be targeting their third league win of the campaign in what could be a huge weekend for Steve Evans’ side when Cardiff Met University come to the 4 Crosses Arena on Saturday (Sept 30th, 2:30pm kick off).
The Archers last trip to Colwyn Bay ended in a 1-0 Welsh Cup defeat in 2021, with Jack Higgins getting the winning goal, and the Bay will gladly take a similar result on Saturday. That could lift them above Pontypridd United, who are away to league leaders TNS, into the top eight of the Cymru Premier table, and to within two points of Cardiff Met in seventh place.
It could also put them to within three points of sixth-placed Bala Town, who were surprisinghly beaten at home by Aberystwyth Town on Wednesday night and face a tough game away to in-form Newtown (currently on a five-match winning run) on Saturday – just a week before they play the Seagulls at Maes Tegid.
So a Bay win this Saturday could prove massive.
Cardiff Met travel north having won only one of their last five league games and in that time have faired far worse than the Seagulls in games against the current top two – losing 5-1 at home to The New Saints and 4-0 away to Connah’s Quay Nomads.
The were held to a 1-1 draw at home by third-bottom Haverfordwest in midweek, so the Bay will want to be on top of their game to take full advantage of any dent in confidence.
Manager Steve Evans felt his side deserved to get at least a point when they lost 1-0 in Cardiff in August, so the side will have a point to prove in front of their home crowd (with the terrace nearest the club shop open again), and with recent signing Brandon Diau in line to make his home debut after helping the side in a battling performance away to high-flying Nomads on Tuesday.
