Colwyn Bay and its surrounding area has been awarded Gold in this year's Wales in Bloom awards.

The announcement was made during a dinner at Beaumaris on Friday evening where judges praised the quality of the entry and the high level of detail that had gone into the floral displays in the towns parks and gardens.

The town won the category Best Large Town and on hand to receive the award on behalf of the town was Roz Dudley who worked very closely with local organisations and Conwy County Council gardeners to make sure the entry was the best it could be.

Colwyn Bay was narrowly beaten for the first place which went to Prestatyn, but nevertheless the Gold Award that the town received certainly recognised the high standard of the entry.

Earlier this year Wales in Bloom judge Jim Goodwin visited the town and was full of praise for what he saw.

Wales in Bloom is part of larger competition which involves communities across the whole of the UK.

Britain in Bloom is divided into various regions Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and 12 in England. Entries are made by Local Authorities, Town and Parish Councils and can vary from small Villages to large Cities.

These are judged regionally by qualified judges during July each year with results announced in September.
