Colwyn Bay FC’s charitable foundation has been awarded £19,500 from The National Lottery Community Fund to help more people across North Wales become active and improve their wellbeing.
The funding will support the development of a series of Active Wellbeing Hubs, creating welcoming and accessible spaces where people of different ages and abilities can take part in activities, meet others and improve their physical and mental health.
The initiative will bring activities directly into local communities, with a particular focus on tackling loneliness and social isolation and helping people who might otherwise face barriers to accessing sport, exercise and other wellbeing opportunities.
The Foundation says the hubs will combine physical activity with social and community-based sessions, helping people build confidence, friendships and stronger connections.
The latest award builds on the club's growing work beyond the football pitch. Since its launch, Colwyn Bay FC Foundation says it has engaged with more than 9,500 people across North Wales through education, sport, community and wellbeing programmes.
Colwyn Bay Football Club itself has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, including its rise through the Welsh football pyramid and promotion back into the Cymru Premier in 2023, strengthening its position as an important sporting presence in the area.
Josh Antoniou of the Foundation said the funding represented another important step in its ambition to make a lasting difference in local communities.
He said: "We recognise that improving wellbeing isn't simply about encouraging people to be more physically active. It's about creating opportunities for people to connect, build confidence, develop friendships and feel part of something positive.
"Our Active Wellbeing Hubs will allow us to take that approach directly into the heart of local communities, providing welcoming environments where people can participate regardless of their age, background or ability."
He also thanked National Lottery players for making the investment possible.
The Foundation will work with local organisations and partners to develop the hubs around the needs of residents, with the aim of creating opportunities that will continue to benefit communities into the future.
