Christmas cheer brings market to Old Colwyn

September 11, 2018 - 1715 views

Old Colwyn is set to have its very first Christmas market after an enterprising group of local people joined forces to do something unique in the locality.

The event was originally a dream for Old Colwyn resident Dawn Jones, who thought it would be good to have a proper Christmas Market in the village and this will now take place on Cefn Road and St John Church, on the 15th and 16th December.

Following a post on the Old Colwyn residents Facebook page over 200 enthusiastic locals responded and earlier this year the first meeting was arranged and they started planning the first Old Colwyn Christmas Market.

The committee wanted the market to be a central part of the village Christmas celebrations and thought it was important for it to be in the main shopping street in Old Colwyn with input from local businesses, the church and schools as well as the residents.

Now the event is timed to take part at the same time as the carol service in the St Johns Church on Sunday night which will be finale to the weekend.

Enterprising organisers have secured grants from Colwyn BID, Colwyn Town Council and have applied for other local community support grants to make the event as big and as successful as possible.
