To celebrate his 47th Birthday, Chris Williams from Conwy, originally from Colwyn Bay cycled 164 miles with friend Stuart McDonald, raising much needed funds for St David’s Hospice.
Chris, a Warrant Officer in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps has raised money for the Hospice in the past, taking part in two previous challenges. Wales in a Day – Conwy to Chepstow 191 miles and the Great Orme challenge (with Adam White from Commando X-Fit) 18 laps.
To date, his most recent birthday fundraiser has raised £370. Every penny raised will contribute towards the charity continuing to provide end-of-life care free of charge to the people of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.
With the stay local restrictions lifted, Chris and Stuart cycled 164 miles, starting and finishing their journey in Conwy. They followed a route from Conwy to Barmouth / Barmouth to Bala / Bala to Corwen with the final length from Corwen to Conwy.
Chris chose to support St David’s Hospice in memory of his friend Ed Burke who sadly passed away at the Hospice.
Chris shared his thoughts about the challenge: “This was a really tough but enjoyable challenge. It was a great feeling to support a fantastic charity. St David’s Hospice gave Ed, who I was friends with for more than thirty years since secondary school, dignified and vital end-of-life care. The Hospice adds so much value to people and families at the hardest time.’’
Chris has already started planning a challenge for next year to support the charity.

‘’We are extremely thankful to Chris and Stuart for raising much needed funds for the Hospice. Community fundraisers make up 90% of the 5 million annual running cost of St David’s Hospice, with just 9% of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board. Without the support of the community, we would not survive.’’
