Just prior to lockdown, a group of teenage school pupils - who all active participants within their school's signing choir - enrolled on Coleg Llandrillo's adult and community course in British Sign Language.

This will provide the eight pupils from St Christopher's School in Wrexham - who are all in a bubble - with the opportunity of gaining a formal qualification from iBSL. iBSL is a leading UK awarding organisation providing British Sign Language (BSL) and other qualifications linked to deaf studies.

Martin Walker, Coleg Llandrillo's programme area manager for learning communities, said: "The school specialises in supporting learners with additional learning needs (ALN) and it was felt that the experience of attending the college - which is one of the leading providers of British Sign Language within Wales - would be a really positive learning experience for the all of the group.

The eight learners are really enjoying the course, and it has really helped them to build their confidence levels.

St Christopher's School is a large special school with 300 learner placements. The school caters for a wide range of additional learning needs and has a fully-inclusive curriculum where learners access local colleges and business partnerships to promote inclusion.
