A Rydal Penrhos Prep School pupil has successfully scaled the equivalent of Mount Everest to raise funds for a North Wales tourist attraction.

Cameron Pye, a member of the Year 6 group at Rydal Penrhos, has completed the daunting challenge in just 56 days, which involved 4,466 flights of the stairs at his home.

This represents a significant achievement from Cameron, and he has also raised a considerable amount for the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay as a result of his efforts.

He has so far raised £1,818 thanks to a flood of donations, which equates to more than £2,000 including Gift Aid.

Speaking to the Rhyl Journal, Cameron’s mum Vicky Pye, said: “His dad and I are so proud of him, to keep going through the challenge.

“The original challenge was supposed to be 3,781 flights of 15 stairs, but because we have 13 we worked out that it was 4,466.

“Initially, we set his fundraising target at £500, then £750 and we kept adding the more he raised. We’re hoping he can reach £2,000 by the end of the challenge.

“Every donation has given him that little bit of determination to keep going.”

This is a cause that is very close to Cameron’s heart, with the youngster visiting the site on countless occasions.

He is also a very talented skier and has secured some notable finishes at high-profile competitions across the country.
