Budding Cricketers from across North Wales have come together to battle it out in the final of the North Wales Police Challenge Shield, an event which has become embedded into the junior cricketing calendar.
The annual competition, which is now in its 20th year, was again supported by North Wales Police and Community Trust (PACT) funding.
The finals day, which is run in conjunction with the Cricket Board of Wales, was played at Mochdre Cricket Club (CC) last Sunday September 3rd.
The day started with the Under 11s final between Conwy CC and Hawarden CC. The young cricketers from Conwy won an eagerly contested match, and it was followed by the Under 13s game which saw Chester Broughton Hall CC take on their opposites at Mold CC, with Mold edging a victory over Chester.
The final game was the under 15 final which was between Llandudno and Hawarden cricket clubs. Llandudno batted well but Hawarden’s challenging score was too much, leading Hawarden to lift the shield.
Sergeant Neal Parkes, who co-ordinated the tournament along with George Morris from Cricket Wales said: “The day was once again a great success. We were blessed with beautiful blue skies and July-like temperatures which continued throughout the day.”
“Credit should go to the volunteers and committee members at Mochdre Cricket Club for providing superb facilities and preparing three excellent wickets for the day.
“A special mention should also go to the umpires for the day; Richard Weed, Hugh Kelly and Phil Robinson as without their assistance, the day simply wouldn’t have happened.”
PACT project manager, Dave Evans, said: “We were delighted to be able to support this tournament again this year.
“It is fantastic to see so many young people from across North Wales take part each year and many congratulations to all the teams who took part.
“On behalf of our board of trustees I would like to thank the tournament organisers, Neal Parkes and George Morris, for the time and effort they put in to make the event happen each year.”
