Breaking: Wrong-way vehicle stopped on A55 on Anglesey

A man has been arrested after a vehicle was stopped while travelling on the wrong side of the A55 on Anglesey this evening.

North Wales Police said officers encountered the vehicle while travelling in the correct direction and were able to safely bring it to a stop.

The A55 was temporarily closed while officers dealt with the incident and made sure the road was safe to reopen.

Before the vehicle entered the A55, a person was knocked from a bicycle on London Road in Holyhead.

The cyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. A number of parked vehicles were also damaged.

Police have confirmed that there were no collisions involving the vehicle as a result of it travelling in the wrong direction on the A55.

One man has been arrested and remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

North Wales Police said investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and that no further details are currently available.

The force also acknowledged the feelings the incident may generate following recent events involving Cleveland Police.
