Communities across the Bay of Colwyn have been given a big boost with the news that Bayside Radio has recently received a temporary FM licence to help support local people during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Using a special transmitter located in the town, Bayside will be broadcast on 87.7FM until the end of June under a special arrangement with the broadcasting authorities.

The news has come as particular boost to local church goers who have turned to the station to provide services on Sunday. So far congregations have been united online but with the new transmitter many additional listeners, particularly the elderly can tune in on their radios.

Simon Wynne, who is Bayside's Operation and Content Director said it was a wonderful opportunity to provide a great public service with essential community information, music and companionship.

"It has been fantastic how local organisations have come together to help us make this happen in just a matter of weeks.

"I must say a very big thanks to Innogy, the Gwynt-y-Mor Immediate Response grant fund and CVSC for seeing the benefits of the project and their support.

"The Bay of Colwyn Town Council have once again been fantastic supporters and our local Assembly Member Darren Millar was one of the first to contact Ofcom and say how important it was for the area to have a positive voice at this time. We have been taken back by everyone's support. Thank you so much".

Jeff Pearson who is a local pastor, radio presenter and Director of Bayside's Community content said it was a great lifeline for older people in isolation and church congregations in the area.

"I'm looking forward to welcoming an even bigger church congregation to our service on Sunday morning at 10am. There is a warm welcome for everyone to come and join us."

Canon Quentin Bellamy has also played an active part in helping provide support for the project his weekly Evensong service has attracted many new listeners.

Simon added; "Bayside will be providing something for everyone and we hope to be good faithful public servants during the next few months.

"We hope to make everyone smile at these troubled times and provide the information most helpful to our wonderful communities. Please come and join us whether online, FM or via podcasting. We promise to keep everyone company."
