Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has hit out at A & E waiting times in Wales saying they are the worst on record, with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board the worst performing health board and Glan Clwyd Hospital the second worse performing hospital.
The figures for December 2019 show that Wrexham Maelor saw a little over half (52.2 percent) of patients within the four-hour target, and Glan Clwyd 52.5 per cent.
The troubled Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board – which has been in special measures since June 2015 – is the worst-performing health board with just 66.8 percent of patients being seen within the critical four-hour period.
Some 6,656 patients were forced to wait more than 12 hours for treatment, a figure that the Welsh Labour Government was forced to acknowledge as the highest number on record.
Commenting, Darren said: “These figures make dismal reading and will be of great to concern to people throughout Wales, but particularly those served by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
“This Health Board has been in special measures, and therefore under direct control of the Labour Welsh Government, for almost five years, yet instead of seeing improvements, problems are escalating rapidly.
“Excessive waits in emergency departments can put people at risk of harm and cause considerable distress to patients, especially young children, older people and the chronically ill.
“As I said in December, when the last figures were published, the Health Minister in Cardiff Bay needs to be held accountable for failing to improve things and either resign or be sacked."
