Allan Cooke, who celebrated his 90’s birthday this week asked people who wished to give him a present, to donate to St David’s Hospice as an alternative method to celebrate his big birthday.

St David’s Hospice is a local charity based in Llandudno, providing care to people living with life-limiting illnesses in Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

Allan, from Penrhyn Bay, decided to support the Hospice, after seeing first-hand the care his wife Lilian received from the local charity during her illness over ten years ago.

Allan’s Grandaughter Rebecca expressed the family’s gratitude to the Hospice.

“Grandma was looked after by St David’s just over ten years ago. As a family, we found the care given by the Hospice to Grandma was second to none. The staff were so caring and supportive to us all.’’

St David’s Hospice’s care does not end with the patient, it is extended to loved ones throughout the duration of illness and beyond.

Rebecca continued to share her family’s thanks. “Even after her passing, the staff kept in contact with Grandad and visited him to make sure he was ok. We couldn’t have asked for more.”

James Wilde, St David’s Hospices’ Conwy Community Fundraiser thanked Allan on behalf of the charity;

‘’We would like to express our thanks to Allan and his family. We are lucky to have dedicated supporters that are the backbone of our charity. Celebrations are not quite the same this year due to COVID-19, but fundraising initiatives such as Allan’s provide a lifeline for us to continue our services.
