Clwyd MS Darren Millar has called for a robust improvement plan to be put in place after a critical inspection report found Rhyl High School requires “significant improvement”.
The latest report from education inspectorate Estyn raised concerns over standards of achievement at the secondary school, which will now be placed on a list of schools requiring significant improvement.
The school and Denbighshire County Council have been informed they must work together to produce an action plan addressing the concerns identified by inspectors.
Mr Millar said the findings would concern parents, pupils and the wider community.
He said: “Every child deserves access to a school education where they can thrive and achieve their full potential, but sadly not all those attending Rhyl High School are getting this opportunity.
“No pupil should be left behind so it is vitally important that improvements are made with pace.
“I will be monitoring progress closely to ensure that the necessary improvements are made so every pupil receives the quality education they deserve.”
The school and local authority will now be expected to set out how they plan to address the issues highlighted by Estyn and improve outcomes for pupils.
