August 03, 2020 - 948 views

Simon Jones from Llanrhos has signed up for the St David’s Hospice Great Orme Goat Challenge and has pledged to cycle the Marine Drive every day in the month of August.

Rain or shine, Simon will put on his cycle helmet and tackle the 5 mile toll road around Llandudno’s headland to raise funds for his local Hospice.

As he will be starting from his house in Deganwy Road, Llanrhos, the complete challenge will total more than 250 miles in the 31days.

Talking about the challenge, Simon said: “In 2010/11, I used to cycle a lot, mainly off-road. I did an event which was around 25km, which is probably the furthest I’ve done.

“I am a little nervous – I don’t know how my body is going to respond based on my current fitness level. It should be interesting especially with all the quarantine weight gain. I will be cycling every day come rain or shine or friendly or unfriendly goats.

“I want to help support St David’s Hospice Recovery Fund given the impact COVID-19 has had, ensuring the Hospice can continue providing such important care.”

The Great Orme Goat Challenge is open to all. St David’s Hospice invites everyone to enjoy the Orme’s pathways and complete as many loops as you can during August.

In return for your fundraising efforts, every time you raise £100 for the charity you will receive a free bespoke ‘Mostyn the goat’ soft toy!

The Limited edition super soft plush toy is the latest item in the Hospice’s goat merchandise and is wearing a St David’s Hospice Goat Tee shirt plus has the words ‘ Lockdown 2020’ on its front foot.

How you complete the challenge is your choice and there are many routes on the Orme so you can be as creative as you wish.
