Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is encouraging residents to respond to the survey being undertaken to establish how the Awel y Môr windfarm off the North Wales coast could best support local communities.

As reported by Bayside, the survey went live last week and owners RWE are welcoming feedback from local people, local groups, town councils and the two local authorities in Conwy and Denbighshire.

Awel y Môr is a project being developedto the west of the existing Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. It is located approximately 10.5km off the Welsh coast in the Irish Sea, with a maximum total area of 88km.

Commenting after submitting a letter full of ideas as to how RWE could possibly support communities in her constituency Mrs. Finch-Saunders said:

“Should this renewable energy scheme go ahead, we need to ensure that the community benefit package is targeted at the clubs, organisations, facilities, and communities most in need of support in Aberconwy.

“As I have made clear in my submission, RWE could have the opportunity to spearhead the battle against climate change in Aberconwy by investing in coastal and Conwy Valley flood risk reduction measures, and publicly accessible electric vehicle charging points across our towns and rural communities.

“Similarly, there are playgrounds, sporting clubs, and charities that would truly benefit from investment.

“I have presented a number of ideas but been clear that RWE should take heed of the suggestions and recommendations offered by residents of Aberconwy and North Wales, so please do have your say”.
