The St David’s Hospice Donation Centre in Mochdre was sadly broken in to at the start of lockdown, causing devastation to the end-of-life charity.

With a combination of sheer determination and the overwhelming generosity from the general public, the centre is now back up and running, and full to the brim with donated goods ready to raise money for the local charity.

After closing its doors for thirteen weeks, the unit on the Quinton Hazell Enterprise Parc is now open to accept donations of items through the pre-book drive-thru system and now is home to a well-stocked shop with social distancing measures in place.

The Mochdre Donation Centre is one of three retail donation ‘hubs, the others being located in Llandudno and Gaerwen.

Jamie Parkes, Manager of the Donation Centres said: “There is a wonderful array of goods on display including; wardrobes, chests of drawers, sofas, chairs, dining sets, shelving, games tables, office and garden furniture.

“We also have PAT tested electrical goods, children’s toys, fishing tackle, cameras, exercise equipment. The list is endless!

“The 22,000 square foot warehouse has been adapted to accommodate a safe social distancing shopping experience for our customers.

“We post regularly on our St David’s Hospice Facebook page so that customers can see what is in store. We look forward to welcoming everyone through our doors”

St David’s Hospice is a grassroots charity built on the generosity of the communities it serves. Each year the Hospice needs to raise over £4 million to keep its doors open to be able to look after people living with life-limiting illnesses in North West Wales.

Due to Covid-19, shops were closed and fundraising events cancelled and the charity will now face a total financial loss of over £1 million.

The Donation Centre is located on Unit 1C, Quinton Hazell Enterprise Parc, Glan-Y-Wern Rd, Mochdre, Colwyn Bay (LL28 5BS) and is open Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm.

A delivery service is also available for the larger items with delivery charges starting from £10. All items sold at the centre will help the charity’s survival through these challenging times.
