Immediately prior to the lockdown, Coleg Llandrillo's Health, Care and Childcare students swept the board at the inaugural Skills Competition Wales 'Inclusive Welsh Skills' competition, winning all the available Gold, Silver and Bronze medals!
Four Coleg Llandrillo students competed, and the victorious students were Megan Nicholson from Rhyl, and Shania Baum, Emilie-Jayne Jones and Jade Williams, all from Llandudno.
The competition standards were extremely high, with thirteen competitors - from across four different college campuses within the North Wales region - taking part in the final in Wrexham. The finalists had to complete three Health and Social Care sector-based tasks.
The triumphant students expressed that they "really enjoyed doing the skills competition" as it was a "new and wonderful experience" for them. Even though they were nervous, they felt proud and would love to do it again.
Linda Roberts, sector champion at Skills Competition for Wales, congratulated Coleg Llandrillo staff members Hayley Lloyd and Amanda Martin on their achievement.
She said: "Congratulations; the girls were an absolute credit to you. Your teaching at Coleg Llandrillo has to be commended, taking all three medals."
Hayley Lloyd, Childcare programme leader at Coleg Llandrillo, said: "The standards demonstrated on the day were extremely high. We are very proud of the girls and the professionalism they displayed.
"The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience which allowed them to put their learning into practice against some of the best healthcare students in Wales.
Paul Flanagan, manager for Health and Social Care at Coleg Llandrillo, congratulated the students on their exceptional achievement.
He said: "We are extremely proud of these excellent student successes especially considering this competition was new within Wales and students had very little opportunity to prepare. Their evidenced skills will carry them really far in future study or employment within the Care sector."
