A sports week with a 'virtual difference' at Ysgol Eirias

Teachers at Ysgol Eirias have come up with an ingenious way to mark the annual summer sports day despite lockdown impacting on this year's event.

Thanks to the efforts of PE head Neil Wilkinson, pupils are being encouraged to take part in the school's very first socially distanced virtual sports event.

Virtual Sports Day is an opportunity for pupils from all years to take on a series of physical activity challenges and compete for their form and house.

The competition is open to everyone in the school with the aim to get as many pupils  involved as possible during the challenge week which begins today.

Over the past few weeks teachers have been recording videos demonstrating what pupils need to do to complete the challenges set. There are 8 of these to complete throughout the week which are a mix of strength, coordination, balance and speed activities.

Each entry contributes points towards form and house totals and there are also virtual prizes for the top performances in each year group.

Pupils wil only need to have method of timing themselves, a mobile phone, a small ball such as tennis ball, a larger ball e.g. a football, a wall and a small space to perform the challenges.
