Hidden heart conditions can pose a real risk for participants in sport and physical activity, so the issue of heart screening is of huge importance to the members of the Welsh Sports Association.

The organisation have just announced that they are delighted to be supporting the charity Welsh Hearts in their initiative to ensure heart screening for 8-45 year-olds is readily available across Wales.

Welsh Hearts provides heart screening and defibrillator installations in communities across Wales, and since 2013, they have played a leading role in improving heart health awareness in Wales – being regarded as the heart charity at the centre of saving lives across Wales.

Charity Director, Sharon Owen said: “To be joining forces with the WSA is a fantastic step forward in raising heart health awareness and will hopefully reach further in educating people that heart screening is vital, even for those who are young, fit and seemingly healthy."

"By finding a previously undiagnosed heart issue, potentially a life can be saved, at least an individual who is found to have a heart problem can get treatment sooner rather than later".

Welsh Sports Association CEO Victoria Ward said: “The collaboration with Welsh Hearts is a great opportunity to raise the profile of screening services and ensure that screening is accessible and affordable to all athletes in the future."

"The screening sessions being offered are quick and painless, so we would encourage all our members to spread the word amongst their athletes and help us to improve heart health awareness across Wales.”
