Shops going the extra mile for memorable Xmas shopping

December 11, 2023 - 1256 views

Llandudno is gearing up for a four-night late night shopping event this week, which will also include a Christmas window and frontage competition, and a Christmas trail around businesses taking part.

There will be a free draw with prizes worth over £800 for completed trails, where stamps have been collected from 20 businesses or more. Trail maps are now available to pick up for free from all premises taking part.

Friends of Mostyn Street began in May this year and are now organising Merry Mostyn Street, a town-wide Christmas trail and late-night shopping event running from 13-16 December showcasing generous offers from local and national businesses alike. There will be live music on Thursday night (14 December) at the Mostyn Art Gallery, and free crafting and stories for children at Llandudno Library while parents are welcome to have free hot chocolate, tea or coffee.

Llandudno Museum will host a wonderful dolls house miniature exhibition, where children also have free entry.  Many retailers have significant discounts and mini events and there will also be a Christmas tree festival supporting St David’s Hospice in St John’s Church, Mostyn Street, and a beautiful service of 9 Lessons and Carols on Saturday at 4.30pm in Holy Trinity Church, Mostyn Street. Meanwhile, a mini Christmas Market and choirs will be taking place in the Victoria Centre, where the multi storey car park will be free between 5.30 and 8pm each evening.

With a free £800 prize draw at stake, there’s something to suit every budget, with an array of special deals and offers to be discovered.  In Craig-y-Don, businesses are also opening and offering promotions and a cosy atmosphere, plus an additional free prize draw for those who make it there.

Gini Rivers of the Friends of Mostyn Street commented: “Llandudno’s generosity towards locals and visitors is in its DNA and we want it to be a welcoming place for everyone this Christmas.

The Friends of Mostyn Street have extended our remit from the town centre to help give a lift to the whole of Llandudno in these challenging trading times. Traders, local businesses, hotels, cafés and entertainers are stepping up to bring folk back to our beautiful high street for a feast of treats.

“This is our first attempt at this sort of event and we already have further exciting plans for 2024. We’re inviting children of all ages to come join in the festivities and share the generous spirit of our businesses and to make them feel valued and appreciated.”

Kate Russell from Petticoat Lane in St. George’s Place commented: “We are very much looking forward to the late-night opening. We’re very lucky to be part of a lovely town where there are so many incredible sole traders and partnerships, both local people and those who have moved here to start their businesses because they love the town. They are all hard-working folk who have such a great sense of community!”

Completed Christmas trail entries, with 20 stamps or more, must be posted in the box in the Magic Bar, Clonmel Street by 5pm on Saturday, 16 December. Window competition and prize draw winners will be announced at 6.30pm the same evening in the Victoria Shopping Centre atrium by the Mayor of the town. Llandudno Town Council are sponsoring the display competition prizes and presenting a historic solid silver cup to the winner.
