A talented young cricketer has turned in another dazzling display to help his regional side to success last weekend.
Owen Reilly, a Year 12 pupil at Rydal Penrhos school, was part of the Bangor side that secured a hugely impressive six-wicket victory at North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title rivals Llandudno.
The sports scholar was in fantastic form with both bat and ball, continuing his exceptional start to the campaign since joining the club from Pwllheli during the off-season.
The Lions’ got off to a poor start in the middle when Michael Hughes clean bowled opener Sam Rimmington after he made just four, with Chris Dawson also getting in on the act early on with the wickets of dangerous duo Danial Evans (12) and Luke Kenworthy (0).
Hughes was at it again soon after with the crucial wicket of skipper Jack Rimmington on five, before Franco Kasner took over proceedings with a devastating spell that went a long way to deciding the contest.
The talented all-rounder took out opener Matthew Jones for 22, and he also dismissed Chris Hardy (11), Kevin James (29), Matty Lambe (13) and Andrew Christian (1) to end a sublime nine overs on 5-30.
Teenager Owen Reilly ousted Oliver Hughes for a duck to conclude the innings, leaving the home side all out for 115.
Evans did his very best to make a fight of things with the new ball, taking out David Winter (1), Kasner (10) and Nadeem Rehman in quick succession on his way to figures of 3-21, but Robbie Marshall restored some sense of order before he was eventually removed by Jones on 35.
The one constant throughout the away side’s time at the crease was Welsh youth international Reilly, who produced another knock of genuine quality to finish unbeaten on 42 to secure the win.
Owen is now averaging 37 with the bat from his four innings’ this season, and he has also taken 25 per cent of his team’s wickets at an average of just 5.4.
