Friends, family and fellow associates of Glan Conwy FC recently came together to raise funds in memory of long standing member Wayne McCabe.

Wayne sadly passed away after being cared for by St David’s Hospice, so his friends rallied together to raise funds for the local charity.

On Saturday April 22nd, Y Clwb hosted a day full of fundraising activities. The day started off with an all-day pool competition where 16 of Wayne’s friends and fellow pool players took to the challenge, with Martyn Wilmore being crowned the winner.

The evening began with a Sporting Memorabilia Auction where organisers Barry Thomas and Colin Roberts collaborated and managed to secure over 70 incredible lots. They ranged from signed football shirts, rugby balls, cricket bats and boxing gloves!

The raffle that followed consisted of some fantastic prizes including golf green fee vouchers, meals out and even a 42” television, all donated by generous local businesses. The evening came to a close with live music by the popular Eglwysbach band, SWN.

The team also held a bucket collection with over £800 being collected for the Hospice. A huge thank you to Lisa Hughes and all the staff and customers at Tesco Llandudno Junction for their generosity.

Barry Thomas, the event organiser said: “We wanted to organise a great event in memory of Wayne, and everything went beyond what we could have expected.

“Everyone was so generous in donating prizes and auction lots, participating in the competition and attending on the night. All who attended had a great night with so much funds raised for St David’s Hospice – thank you!”

Adrian Owen, St David’s Hospice Fundraising Manager said: “Once again, the Community of Glan Conwy and surrounding areas have come together to support St David’s Hospice.

“I am amazed at how many people have donated items or prizes to remember Wayne and supporting the Hospice in such a generous fashion.

“For such a small community to raise over £9000 in a single day event is outstanding. My personal thanks to Barry Thomas, Colin Roberts and Y Clwb as I know the effort that has been put in to make this a most memorable event.

“I’d also like to thank Michelle Roberts and Barclays Bank for arranging a generous donation as part of their Community Awards.”

The overall total raised was a phenomenal £9102! St David’s Hospice would like to thank everyone for their hard work, particularly Barry Thomas, Colin Roberts plus Mandy and all the staff and members of Y Clwb.
