A Preparatory School year group in Colwyn Bay got the chance to get creative as part of an ongoing outdoor learning initiative.
The Year 5 contingent at Rydal Penrhos took part in their latest Forest School session yesterday where they were supervised by programme co-ordinator Jude Pyves and Art teacher Suzy Morris.
They were tasked with designing and making recycled bird feeders, which involved each pupil working within groups to come up with a suitable creation that would later be placed throughout the forest.
Once they had finished their project, the groups were able to fill their feeders with some tasty treats that drew instant interest from birds and other wildlife within the Forest School.
Each pupil was rewarded for their commitment in less than perfect conditions with a hot chocolate, and there was also a chance for some free play time on the site.
The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences.
The Forest School programme originated in Scandinavia and is underpinned by thorough research into the learning behaviour of children at an early age and how best to develop this.
Rydal Penrhos Forest School focuses on providing a safe, outdoor learning experience where children and young people are encouraged to explore, discover, take suitable risks and learn in a secure area of woodland.
