Dog beach ban in the Bay and Rhos goes back to consultation

Conwy County councillors have agreed further consultation on Dog Control Orders at Colwyn Bay beach, following 'overlooked factors'.

Media reports from last week suggested that incorrect signage and information of the council's website caused potential confusion with some members of the public.

At a meeting last Thursday, Cabinet Members supported the extended and varied Dog Control Orders that apply at locations across Conwy County Borough, except the area of beach from Porth Eirias up to the small sandy beach at Rhos Point.

Councillors decided that further consultation should be carried out on potential alternatives to a permanent dog exclusion for the whole area of Colwyn Bay beach, apart from the small sandy beach at Rhos Point, Rhos on Sea.

Council Leader, Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, said: “I want to apologise to members of the public for any upset caused by the consultation process. Clearly there’s strong support for use of Colwyn Bay beach. Here in Conwy county we’re blessed with lots and lots of nice beaches and I’m sure we can find a solution for everyone to enjoy this one.”

The further consultation on the options for Colwyn Bay beach will take place over the winter period - details are to be confirmed and will be publicised in due course.
