This year's celebration of Welsh culture, music and song will be postponed again following a heartfelt statement from organisers.

The National Eisteddfod, which is a major highlight in the events calendar, attracts many people fron North Wales and this summer was due to be held in Ceredigion.

However for the second year in a row, the event committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the event as a result of concerns about Covid, said a spokesperson.

"We're so disappointed to announce that we've taken this decision but it has become clear in our discussions with Welsh Government and Public Health Wales that the Eisteddfod couldn't be held in Tregaron this year."

"We'll be organising more Eisteddfod AmGen sessions, and hope to have competitions as part of this year's festival. We're looking forward to sharing our ideas with you soon".

The statement went on to explain at the impact the decision had for many of the people working behind the scenes organising and planning the festival.

"We also had to start a consultation process with staff so we can survive this most difficult time. This is heartbreaking for everyone involved in the Eisteddfod".

It is hoped that the event can back return in summer 2022 subject to Coronavirus and the rollout of the immunisation programme in Wales.
