Conwy issues refuse advice to Colwyn Bay households

August 28, 2018 - 1749 views

Ahead of a big change to refuse collection services in Colwyn Bay and elsewhere, Conwy County Borough Council has just published advice to local householders.

The service which changes significantly from September 24th will see a new calendar of collections rolled out and the council is keen to ensure that everyone is prepared especially as some services will now reduce down to 4 weekly collections.

What happens now?

The service will change from 24th September 2018. Look out for a new collection calendar and information which will be delivered to your home. The service change will mean that all Conwy residents will have:

  • a weekly collection for food waste;

  • a weekly collection for paper, card, Tetra Paks, cans, aerosols, foil, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, tubs and trays and batteries;

  • a fortnightly collection for green waste, textiles and small electrical waste;

  • a refuse collection every four weeks; and

  • a weekly nappy or incontinence products collection for those who need it.

Making your new service work

One of the best ways to make the service problem free is to make the most of the weekly collections.  This will help make sure that we have enough room in our bins for whatever refuse cannot be recycled. Weekly food waste collections will also prevent any potential problems with smells. As most of the refuse that we produce from our homes is recyclable, the weekly collections deal with most of it, removing it from our homes and putting it to good use.

If you are not sure if something can be recycled, the council have developed an app to help. Find out how to download the app via http://www.conwy.gov.uk/en/Resident/Recycling-and-Waste/The-Conwy-App.aspx.
