Calls for local recycling centres to be reopened

Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is calling for recycling centres in his constituency to be reopened.

The centres were closed six weeks ago in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, but Darren is concerned that recyclable waste is building up in people’s homes and believes that centres could be reopened without putting people’s health in jeopardy.

He said: “I’ve received quite a few emails now from residents who are concerned that they are unable to dispose of their recyclable waste.

“We've seen an increase in fly tipping locally and with people being at home many have been doing DIY and clearing things out but are unable to get rid of it and it is mounting in their homes.

“Green waste is also building up at many people's homes in Conwy due to changes in waste collection arrangements.

“There is also concern that meeting recycling targets will be more challenging than ever during this pandemic.

“There's no reason why these centres can't reopen and people visit them while maintaining social distancing.  I am therefore calling on local councils to reopen them as soon as possible.”
