Due to the exceptional circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic this year, Coleg Llandrillo students were unable to sit their exams this summer.
Instead, they received their results based upon their predicted grades and combined assessment information.
Amongst those celebrating was 19-year-old Rhyl Sixth student, Sohaib Hassan from Rhyl, gained an A* in History after studying for the full A Level in only 12 months. T
his additional A Level completes his already impressive resume of A Levels studied at school, and has enabled him to accept an unconditional offer for Oxford University to read English Literature and Language.
He said:"I chose History and have never regretted my decision. From the first few lessons, I realised the benefit of the course content and method of deliverance to my future.
"I am certain that the essay style, source analysis skills, political debate and criticisms, and delving into profound ideas such as liberty, equality, revolution, monarchy, oppression and corruption have enhanced my perception of the world and will be invaluable for my English degree at Oxford.
"In fact, as an aspiring postgraduate, having completed an entire A Level course in one year has given me transferable skills that I can demonstrate and further for a one year Master’s in the future with either a Drama school or Law school."
At Coleg Menai’s Bangor campus, Isobel Marshall-Andrews, 20, from Llangaffo, Anglesey received an outstanding A* in Biology, A* in Chemistry, A in Physics and A* in the Welsh Baccalaureate.
She said: "My time at Coleg Menai has been awesome and I really cannot thank my tutors enough for supporting me and giving me the tools I needed to achieve my goals and challenge myself.
"I could not have done any of this without them patiently answering every one of my questions in class and helping me refine my skills. I’ve learnt so much and I’m excited to put it all to use!
"I’m going to start an undergraduate course in Plant Science at Sheffield University with the aim of progressing on to research into crop sustainability and the interactions between plant life and climate change. It’s a strange time to be starting university with the pandemic but I am excited anyway and I can’t wait to begin."
At Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Pwllheli campus, Lleucu Lane, 18 from Garndolbenmaen, is celebrating after hearing that she will be going to Cardiff University to study Medicine.
She achieved an A* in Maths, and A in Biology and an A in Chemistry.
Lleucu said: "I am thrilled with my grades which means that I have achieved my goal of going to study Medicine at Cardiff University! I have really enjoyed my time at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.
"The last 2 years have been very challenging academically, and I have had to work hard, but I have also made lifelong friends, for which I am very grateful.
I"t was disappointing not to be able to finish our time as the class of 2020 in the usual way. The last few months have been unsettling, which is natural, but now I’m looking forward to the next exciting chapter."
Reflecting on this year’s results, the Grŵp’s Chief Executive, Dafydd Evans, said: "Congratulations to all of our learners receiving their results today.
"Many have achieved excellent results and I would like to wish all of our learners continued success in their chosen career. The Grŵp’s priority now is to support all A Level learners to understand their results, and what their options are for the future."
