Lessons at Ysgol Bryn Elian were broken up today as news reached the classroom of the sudden death of a popular and long standing teacher at the school.

In an emotional day, tributes were paid to Delyth Jones who was Head of PE and an Assistant Head Teacher.

Delyth inspired many generations of children and was an incredible character who the whole school looked up to. Many pupils and former students took to Facebook and Twitter to share their stories and pay tribute.

She taught at the school for many years and Headmaster Dave Humphreys spoke about her work as he broke the news in front of many visibly shaken pupils on a year-by-year basis.

Former Llanddulas pupil Kai Davies who organises events at Porth Eirias remembers a hard working teacher with a wonderful sense of humour.

“She was always at the centre of every sporting event and worked hard to make sure that all pupils enjoyed physical education at the school.

"In recent years she began to bring students down to the Colwyn Bay watersports centre to learn windsurfing and sailing and I got to know her well. She was always good humoured with all the staff and wanted all the children to have a good time.

"She’ll be very much missed and our thoughts go out to her family at this time”.
