A local company has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the Rhos Point site in Rhos on Sea.

Conwy County Borough Council has chosen Tir Prince Raceway Ltd. to redevelop the site with a restaurant, café and small retail unit around a courtyard focussed on the listed toll booth.

It was chosen as the preferred bidder following an assessment against a Development Brief, and the decision was made by Cabinet yesterday following an in-depth discussion.

Last year, the Council invited expressions of interest to develop a commercial facility at this maritime setting.

Applicants were advised that the development must be non-residential and must support year-round employment opportunities.

The prominence of the site, the Grade II listed toll booth (former Pier Entrance Building), and proximity to the Rhos on Sea conservation area, will require a high degree of sensitivity in the design and profile of any buildings.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Louise Emery, said, “I warmly welcome this exciting development opportunity.  It’s an area with a unique sense of place, enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and we’re looking forward to see the proposals progress.

“The scheme is modern, ambitious, and will enhance not just Rhos on Sea but the entire coast, complementing the development of the beach frontage at Colwyn Bay.”

The next step will be for Tir Prince Raceway Ltd. to prepare and submit a planning application.
