A local student took the plunge and cut off 13 inches of her hair, which she is donating to a charity that provides free real hair wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer and other illnesses.
Natalie Jones, who is studying on the Level 1 Hairdressing course at the Coleg Llandrillo Rhos-on-Sea campus, lost her locks recently at the college's professional salons. Friend, classmate, and trainee hairdresser, Lyndsey Flynn from Caernarfon, was on-hand to perform the duty.
Natalie will not only be giving her hair to the Little Princess Trust, but all the monies raised through sponsorship will go to the National Autistic Society charity. Natalie, whose son is autistic, has raised £200 so far, and is hoping to reach her target of £300.
The Little Princess Trust is a charity that has provided thousands of free wigs to children throughout the UK and Ireland who have sadly lost their hair from treatments due to diseases such as cancer and alopecia.
However wigs can cost hundreds of pounds each to produce for the charity, so Natalie's offering will be gratefully received. The trust also funds research into childhood cancers.
Natalie said, "The greatest thing is, that by cutting off my hair, two charities benefit at the same time. I would like to thank everybody who has supported me and donated to the cause; it has been a brilliant response".
Natalie's tutor, Wendy Jones, said, "We are all very proud of Natalie. It is a brilliant gesture and a wonderful thing for someone to do".
