The Queen’s New Year Honours today recognises a well respected local musician who has overcome ill health on a number of occasions and who has helped inspire young people both locally and across the world for many decades.

Mike Peters who comes from Prestatyn has been awarded an MBE for his charitable work in this year’s awards. Not only is Mike well known for his personal contribution to music both as a solo artist and in the eighties band The Alarm but he is also a proud patron of Tape a successful local organisation which aims to encourage young people and the community in general to explore music, arts and film.

Mike battled and overcame cancer on three separate occassions and formed the charity Love Hope and Strength to encourage music fans to become bone marrow donors. His wife Jules has also been touched by ill health and  together they have campaigned to help support other sufferers.

Locally Mike has helped to further raise the profile of  Old Colwyn based Tape Music and Film by becoming their very first patron. At the time of his appointment Mike said how proud he was to be associated with the charity. " It is clear the we share the same sense of community, the value in people coming together to create and the importance of finding your voice and the freedom to express yourself. I am very much looking forward to building on our work together and as serving as Patron of this unique and fantastic charity.”

Mike joins Holyhead based lifeboat crewman David Drinkwater and husband and wife founders of Anglesey Sea Salt David and Alison Lea-Wilson  in receiving recognition from Buckingham Palace.
