Hospice Dark Runs to help support sick children locally

October 25, 2023 - 612 views

The very popular Dark Run events are back this Friday (27th October) raising money for our children's hospices and you won’t want to miss out!

With four events across North Wales and Shropshire, supporting Ty Gobaith and Hope House, there’s one near you and tickets are already on sale and being snapped-up fast.

The beautiful Penrhyn Castle has joined, RSPB Conwy, Chirk Castle and Telford Town Park to light up the autumn evenings and raise funds to help us support seriously ill local children and their families.

Dark Runs are a family-friendly run, walk, push or even dance along beautiful coastline and especially lit-up park and castle views as darkness falls.

This year Principality Building Society is generously match-funding the sponsorship money raised at each of the four events up to £12,500, meaning the runs are set to raise more money than ever before.

James Harper, Social Impact Manager at Principality Building Society, said: “We’re really proud to be supporting the Hope House Tŷ Gobaith team as they put together these exciting events.

"We know the atmosphere is going to be amazing, and as ever there will be a great family feel to the celebrations.

“The current financial climate means that donations are more important than ever before to maintain the vital services that they provide for the children and families that they support, we are proud to match fund all donations at these events, and can’t wait to get involved.”

Using established and accessible routes, Dark Runs see hundreds of people don fancy dress and glow sticks to light up the night and enjoy the party atmosphere – with every participant getting a special goody bag and medal.

On registration at each event, every competitor will be given a special extra large flashing wand to carry with them along the route and invited to join the group warm-up hosted by fitness experts.

Hope House Fundraising Team Leader Cat Dowdeswell, said: “We are excited to once again invite people to join us for our incredible Dark Runs.

“Every year these events bring our supporters together for a great evening of fun to raise vital funds for our hospices.

“We need to raise £7.5 million every year to make sure we can be here for the seriously ill families and children that we support, and without the great support from our community at fundraising events such as the Dark Runs, we wouldn’t be able to be there for those that need us the most.

Open to all ages and there is no dress code but you are welcome to come in neon or dress-up in Halloween costumes.

Tickets are just £10 for adults and £5 for children (under 16) sign up ahead of Friday by clicking here.
