Earlier today, it was my pleasure to chat with Lydia Mottershead from the Conwy Community Wellbeing team at Conwy County Borough Council.
I found out a little more about what they do and the support they offer to our communities particularly older people. There's news about some of the projects and an open invitation to reach out to the team if you would like helping supporting people in your community and promoting wellbeing.
There also news about a new welcome pack which has been produced and is available for free.
The pack contains lots of useful information to support your wellbeing during these difficult times, as well as activities to help boost both your physical and mental wellbeing. Call or email them today to request a copy or download using the link. www.conwy.gov.uk/wellbeingpack
You can email the team stayingwell@conwy.gov.uk or call 01492 577449.
Take a listen to our podcast conversation if you have a few minutes to spare.
Lots more information can be found on their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/conwywellbeing/

Earlier this week Colwyn Bay woke to a lovely surprise!
Thanks to the efforts of Angela Roberts and volunteers helping out at the Kind Bay Initiative, shoppers and shop keepers arrived to find the organisation had given flower beds, planters and window boxes a colourful makeover and filled them with bedding plants and shrubs.
I had a chat with Angela on my Friday show to find out how it all came about, who was involved and how much it meant to our Bay of Colwyn community.
Please take a listen!
Simon.

Colwyn Bay’s Tuesday and Saturday street market has returned say Conwy County Council proudly.
Last year the Council decided to look at ways to manage and develop Colwyn Bay market which has been an important feature in the town for over 30 years.
In March 2020, following advertising the opportunity to manage the market, the Council awarded a contract to the Artisan Market Company Ltd.
A local market will now take place every Tuesday with a range of essentials including food, hardware and homeware.
On the third Saturday of the month an Artisan market, featuring handmade arts, crafts and artisan food, will also run. The first of these Artisan markets takes place on Saturday 18 July.
Simon spoke to Stella Mac from The Artisan Market Company on Wednesday's Good Morning Colwyn Bay.

A Colwyn Bay organisation with a heart of gold has been working tirelessly in our community for many weeks helping our vulnerable and making sure that local foodbanks have been well stocked during the Coronavirus crisis.
Now in response to the plight of our town's much loved zoo, volunteers at The Kind Bay Initiative are turning their attention to helping feed the animals during a very uncertain time.
Thanks to what is already a campaign continuing to gather momentum in the Bay, locals are helping out on one of the biggest food collection projects that the town has seen.
On Sunday (21st June) between 4 and 6pm, Kind Bay volunteers and drivers which are donating their vans and time for free and will be heading around the locality picking up food to help ease some of the pressure on the zoo's running costs which continue despite the lockdown.
Helen Robinson from the Kind Bay says it will be an ambitious collection "but one that shows how wonderful it is that the community has come together at this time.
"The people at 2 Me 2 You removals have even come on board with their van as well to help take donations up to the Zoo on Monday. " said Helen.
These are the items which are needed at this time. Fruit and Veg (no potatoes or mushrooms), plain porridge, bird seed, unsalted nuts, dry sultanas, raisins, apricots, dates, honey, tinned fruit, chutney, fresh herbs, hay, shavings, wormwool.
To get involved please head over to the Kind Bay Initiative on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/thekindbayinitiative/
In the weeks to come The Kind Bay will also be turning attention to supporting St. David's Hospice.
Hear our chat with Helen in our short podcast.

Hello,
On my show this week I had the pleasure to chat with Gwen Thirsk who is the Invest Local Officer for the Building Communities Trust.
Invest Local is a programme of funding and support for 13 communities across Wales. It’s an opportunity for everyone living in those communities to make their local area an even better place to live.
The 10-year programme builds on the strengths, skills and talents of individuals, groups and organisations in those communities to create positive and long-lasting change. Each area will have £1m to spend on local priorities over the 10 years.
Each community decides how they want their areas to develop, how the money will be used, which organisations they want to work with, and how decisions are made.
So how does this all fit into life in Colwyn Bay?
Well one of the areas of focus is the Glyn Ward in Colwyn Bay and after much development and consultation a group has been set up called Together for Colwyn Bay to identify the things that matter to the community and create plans to make positive things a reality.
Take a listen to my chat with Gwen and discover a bit more about the aims of Together for Colwyn Bay and perhaps get involved in helping shape a great project for the community alongside the two development officers Georgia and Vin.
Here are a couple of links to the websites and groups that get mentioned in the podcast. Details of the website launch will be announced soon via the Together for Colwyn Bay Facebook page so please keep an eye open.

If you've been listening to us over the past few weeks, we have been celebrating Colwyn Through The Power of Song and the healing nature of music to make us feel a little better about things as we remain in lockdown across the Bay.
Earlier today I caught up with Paul Richards who along with Lucy, run the world-famous Uke-A-Bay event.
Sadly once again the coronavirus pandemic has meant the cancellation of this year's event which was due to feature the amazing Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
However not all is lost and with the help of the community, Paul and Lucy fully intend to hold a 'virtual' Uke-A-Bay concert on their website using video, audio and clips which they hope you can help contribute.
The aim is to try and get this up and running for August and also to try and raise some money for our Welsh Mountain Zoo in the process.
I had a good chat with Paul about the history of the event, the ambition of the virtual Uke-A-Bay and we enjoyed three 2019 performances to lift our spirits from the Mersey Belles and Beau, The Secret Ukulele Band and Young At Heart.
If you visit the Uke-A-Bay website at the moment there's not much to see whilst they prepare for August. But if you would like to be part of the Virtual Uke-A-Bay, you can drop them a line via ukeabay19@gmail.com.
Alternatively visit their Facebook page here or their YouTube channel here.

As North Wales eases slowly out of lockdown, watersports and sailing is beginning to get up and running and last week I found out about a very exciting project which is being stepped up in the county.
Wales based sailor Cris Miles has taken the first steps to enter the prestigious ‘Mini Transat’ race that takes place every two years, the next race being 2021.
The project currently based at Conwy Marina is believed to be only the second time a Welsh based boat has attempted the race.
The boat, brought from France before lockdown, is a ‘Classe Mini 6.50 - just 21’ long. Despite the diminutive size these boats are faster than most speed boats in the right conditions, capable of speeds in excess of 20 knots.
The race is a brutal test, with skippers only sleeping for 20 minutes at a time, and no luxuries on board including no toilet.
Join me for a chat with Cris about this immense challenge in our short podcast.

Once again it has been a fantastic Volunteering Week talking to organisations across the Bay of Colwyn who have been doing some pretty amazing things during the past 12 months.
Factor in all the extra hours that have been acheived during these quite incredible times and its clear that volunteers are helping keeping our communities going!
Last week I spoke to many people and highlighted a fantastic opportunity for young people to secure funding to set up a volunteering project thanks to Conwy Voluntary Services Council (CVSC) and on Friday I capped it all of with a good chat with Steve Pugh who is Volunteer Coordinator at Crest on Douglas Road in the Bay and at Brierley House in the Junction.
We had a good chat about how their volunteers are helping the community and I hope it will inspire you to get involved in some of their projects or take the plunge elsewhere into the rewarding world of volunteering.
If you'd like to find out more head over to their website https://www.crestcooperative.co.uk
Alternatively follow Crest on Twitter and Facebook to say hello and get involved! Thanks Ste!

It's been another great week of music as we've been marking positivity and wellbeing in our Colwyn through the power of song feature whilst in lockdown.
In this episode of the podcast we hear live music with a folksy edge from local musician Vin Murtagh including his own composition 'This Is The Ship' and a cover of 'Rake' originall recorded by Townes van Zandt.
Also we have another check in with the Ghostbuskers to see how they are doing in their bid to get more members into their community choir. Plus there's a fantastic live performance of them on the stage at the BBC Proms back in 2016.
Remember you can get involved with Ghostbuskers and find out more here https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ghostbuskers/
Thanks for listening and remember there's lots of local music featured across the week in Good Morning Colwyn Bay, weekdays from 8am on Drive with Phillydog from 4pm.

COVID 19: Book of Remembrance

An online book of remembrance has been launched to commemerate and remember those who have died as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bayside's Jeff Pearson looked back at the launch with reporter Stuart Buchanan. You can hear the report here in a special podcast.
People of all faiths, beliefs or none are invited to contribute to Remember Me by submitting, free of charge, the name, photograph and a short message in honour of the deceased person via the Remember Me website.
Local Clwyd West MS Darren Millar commented on the project: “It is truly devastating that so many people across the UK have lost their lives to coronavirus and my heart goes out to every single family affected.
“Remember Me is a wonderful way of paying tribute to those we have lost in this pandemic and I encourage anyone in Conwy and Denbighshire who has lost someone to this virus to pay tribute to them on the Remember Me site.”
Remember Me was launched at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, where choristers recorded a special piece of music to serve as an anthem for the book of remembrance.
It is intended that the Remember Me site will become a physical memorial at the Cathedral, with designs approved for a new inner porch in the North transept, which, subject to funding, will serve as a fitting memorial for all who have died as a result of the pandemic.
The Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Very Reverend David Ison, said: "For centuries, St Paul's Cathedral has been a place to remember the personal and national impact of great tragedies, from the losses of war to the devastation of the Grenfell Tower fire.
"We have heard so many sad stories of those affected by the pandemic, and all our thoughts and prayers are with them. Every person is valued and worthy of remembrance.”
Members of the public can register details of their family member or friend on ‘Remember Me: A book of remembrance for the UK’ via: www.rememberme2020.uk

We've been having so much fun this week featuring musicians and also local people just breaking into song to keep their spirits high during lockdown.
The power of song is helping give us a massive boost at a difficult time and on Friday it was my pleasure to talk with some of the people who are part of the Ghostbuskers group which is organised by Tape Music and Film in Old Colwyn.
Ghostbuskers or as they are effectionately known as the Goo-Boos, is a community based group who would ordinarily be taking to the stage and streets to bring their love of music into the community.
Sadly at the moment that's not possible but that isn't dampening the group and as always they are always on the look out for people to join. You don't have to be a singer just someone who want to join in, have fun and meet like minded people.
Currently they are rehearsing online each Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm via Zoom and they have the target to increase the group to 101 members over the next few weeks.
Please take a listen to the podcast and why not give it a go? You can find details of the group at www.facebook.com/groups/Ghostbuskers

Hi there,
Last week as part of our Colwyn Through The Power of Song feature, I caught up with two local talents who use music to drive positivity and keep spirits high for everyone during the lockdown.
It was my pleasure to meet up with both Tomos Bohanna a young singer from Colwyn Bay who is definately a talent to watch out for having starred in the Alladin pantomime at Theatr Colwyn earlier in the year. What a fantastic voice.
Also another great young talent is Tom Rogerwski who is both a solo musician from Colwyn Bay and star of band Mad Haven who are very much in demand on the rock circuit.
I chat to them both about their music, how it helps at this difficult time - it is a real inspiration to hear them both.
Don't forget we'll be continuing the feature for the next few weeks on both my programme in the morning and on Drivetime with Phillydog. Hope you can join us and take part if you're a local person who enjoys a good old sing-song!
Hear the podcast and let these two young talents inspire you to break into song!

Marie Curie: Blooming Virtual Tea Party

Last week I had the great pleasure to chat to Victoria Hardy who is a localnfundraiser for Marie Curie and she told me a little about their work supporting people seriously ill with cancer and a fundraising idea which has had to take on a brand new look to address the lockdown many of us find ourselves in.
Marie Curie’s famous Blooming Great Tea Party is going virtual this year and the charity needs tea party hosts more than ever before to make up for the devastating effect the coronavirus crisis has had on the charity’s income.
The end of life charity is calling on you to throw a Blooming Virtual Tea Party from home this summer. While staying indoors is the new normal, throwing a virtual tea party is a fun way to stay connected to the ones you love during this time and a great way to support nurses working on the frontline of the crisis.
In people’s homes across North Wales, the charity is caring for people with terminal illnesses and is protecting the NHS by keeping patients away from hospital.
However, as the charity has stepped up its support for the nation, its fundraising income has been devastated by the impact of lockdown measures – it had to cancel its Great Daffodil Appeal in March and closed all its charity shops shortly after.
That is why the charity and its celebrity ambassador, Mel Giedroyc, are encouraging everyone to download Zoom, Skype or Houseparty and connect with friends and family while raising some money at the same time.
Cake lover and tea party extraordinaire, Mel Giedroyc says: “You can bake it, fake it, brew it or stew it – whatever your cup of tea, Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Tea Party is going ‘virtual’ this year and it’s a simple way to keep in touch with your chums, while raising money for a wonderful cause, which, I think you’ll agree, we all need right now".
“Marie Curie needs to raise a massive £2.5million each week to care for the tens of thousands of people who need its nursing and hospice care. This year, the amazing nurses and frontline staff need you more than ever, as the fundraising events they rely on have all been cancelled.
“I’ve met their nurses before. They are inspiring, kind, caring and loving people who are currently caring for people at the end of their lives and keeping people out of hospital, helping the NHS cope with the Coronavirus crisis.
“Every last crumb of the money you raise will help people at the end of their lives. So please join me by raising a cuppa, and some money, in your lounge or garden for the Marie Curie Nurses on the front line”.
Sara Bass, Fundraising Manager in Wales, said: “Our Blooming Great Tea Party looks a little different this year but I think everyone needs an excuse to meet up with their friends and family – online of course – and check in on the people they love.
"If you can do that while raising some money for Marie Curie, then your generous donations will enable us to help even more people at the end of their lives get the care they need in this time of uncertainty.
“We rely on the support of the amazing public to ensure our nurses can keep caring for people. And while the coronavirus crisis has badly impacted our fundraising events, we hope by going virtual we’ll be able to raise the vital funds we need to keep supporting people in our communities across North Wales.”

We are just coming towards the end of Mental Health Awareness Week and on Bayside we have been discussing tips and advice to help us all come to terms with lockdown and a very different life to what we are used to.
On Friday I had the opportunity to catch up with Rachel and Claire from Conwy Mind to find out about the type of problems we are all experiencing at the moment and most importantly highlighting the fact that many of us all feeling the same way. There is absolutely no shame or stigma in seeking some help and advice as anxiety and stress levels begin to go up.
And you might be thinking like me, that organisations like Conwy Mind are just for people suffering from serious mental health issues and that is definately not the case. One day you might feel like not getting out of bed and whilst there's nothing wrong with a good old duvet day, this can esculate meaning that depression and isolation turns into mental isolation.
So why not take a listen to my podcast which is about 15 minutes long? If it helps just one person in the Colwyn Bay and Conwy county area then it has been worth while.

During these difficult and anxious times being able to relax is a key part of maintaining positivity, good balance and health.
On my show earlier today I had a chat with Lydia Watson from Cartrefi Conwy about a series of online video workshops which you can take part in to help deal with the stresses and strains of life at this time.
Tai Chi is a gentle Chinese martial art of slow meditative physical exercise. This helps combines mental concentration, slow breathing and dance-like movements to increase life force energy.
Why not listen to our conversation and if you live in the Conwy area why not consider getting involved? Here is a link to their special Facebook page - Tai Chi Finding Your Anchor.
I'm sure Lydia will be on hand to answer any questions you have.

One of the most community orientated organisations in the Colwyn Bay is the wonderful Crest Cooperative based on Douglas Road in the town and also in Llandudno Junction at Brierley House.
On Friday's Good Morning Colwyn Bay, Simon caught up with Crest's Operation Manager Rod Williams to find out how they are all responding to the lockdown and the support they are offering despite their two bases being closed down.
From keeping the community going with emergency deliveries of white goods through to their partnership with Dylans to supply thousands of meals to hospital workers, Rod explains it all. There's also an update on their new unit on Pabo Lane in Llandudno Junction which is being prepared ready for opening when the time is right.

It's been a quite few weeks since we caught up with Mark Clemson from the Colwyn Bay Chamber of Trade, so Simon checked in with the volunteers working hard to make scrubs and protective clothing for our key frontline NHS workers and some of the doctors surgeries and care homes in the area.
On Friday he had a chat with Tracey Toulmin about how her business the Bryn Woodlands B&B has been transformed into a distribution centre for the Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay operation.
Listen to Tracey's update here and if you would like to find out more or donate time, materials or money to the cause to help keep our workers safe, please check out these links.

Hello,
On my show earlier today, I had a good chat with Simon Poole who works for Mens Sheds Cymru about the brilliant work that is done down on Rhiw Road in Colwyn Bay and further afield across Wales.
Interestingly there is far more to the Mens Sheds than meets the eye and Simon tells me a little about why it is so important to support older men living in our community.
Of course at the moment, COVID-19 has impacted on the Sheds' operation but there is still a good support network out there as Simon explains.
Why not listen to our short podcast to find out a little more?
Here are the links to Mens Sheds Cymru and our wonderful Colwyn Bay Mens Sheds with Malcolm and the rest of the team. I have also put a link to the She Sheds Facebook in Colwyn Bay, as the ladies there are also a fantastic bunch of people.

As always its great to speak with Richard from Venue Cymru about things that are going on in theatreland.
However with the COVID-19 lock down happening and Venue Cymru transforming into Ysbyty'r Enfys to meet the need of local NHS, things are anything but 'business-as-usual.'
However, in this short podcast Richard talks about the impact on Theatr Colwyn and Venue Cymru and what is in store in the near future and into 2021. There's also news about digital online projects and everything you need to know if you have a ticket for an existing show during the forthcoming weeks.

COVID 19: Rydal Penrhos School PPE Project

Rydal Penrhos’ project to produce PPE for NHS staff and keyworkers across the region hit another milestone recently.
Design Technology teacher, technician James Bonser and Sixth Form pupil Jamie Lavery have been busy over the last six weeks, making protective masks that have been distributed across the community to assist in the fight against Covid-19.
The project has now surpassed the 2,000-mask mark thanks to their sterling efforts throughout the coronavirus pandemic closure.
Simon spoke with Design Technology Mark Harmsworth about the project for a short podcast which you can hear on this page.
The school has received messages of thanks from those that have received the masks, which have proved exceptionally useful in this unprecedented time.
Gerwyn Jones, Practice Manager at Bethesda Medical Centre, said: “On behalf of the Doctors and all the staff at the Medical Centre, I wish to convey our thanks for the very generous gift of 10 face visors which were delivered yesterday.
“Thank you very much – your kind gesture is much appreciated.”
A crowd funding page set up to increase production reached its £2,500 target thanks to a wealth of generous donations, and the Friends of Rydal Penrhos parent group donating £1,000 to further aid the fantastic work.
John & Margaret Haydon, Directors at Bryn Marl and Coed Isaf Nursing Homes, added: “We were very grateful to receive the delivery of the Visors for our staff to use during this awful time dealing with Covid 19.
“We and our 115 staff at Coed Isaf and Bryn Marl thank you for your generosity. Keep up the good work.”
Anyone with any materials to spare can email SJames@rydalpenrhos.comwith the relevant information.
Those requiring PPE can also email Miss James with their specific request.
Those wishing to donate to the project can do so here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sarah039s-campaign-for-rydal-penrhos-limited.

Earlier today, I had the great pleasure of chatting to Margaret from St. David's Hospice about the massive pressure on the organisation in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown and how fundraising has been seriously impacted.
Yesterday we broke news of how the hospice intends to fill a staggering £1m shortfall in funding through their Recovery Fund portal and I thought it would be good idea to find out a little more.
Please take a listen to our podcast conversation and if you can, please spread the word about as the situation feels very challenging indeed.
Here's a link to yesterday's article too. https://www.baysideradio.co.uk/news/in-a-fight-for-survival-st-david-s-hospice-launches-appeal-1864

Hi there,
In a series of conversations with local charities and groups working in the Conwy area, I had the pleasure of chatting with Debbie Rowley who is a fundraiser for Tenovus Cancer Care.
Debbie told me about what Tenovus is set up to do and how the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has impacted on fundraising.
Never fear, there are some ideas which you take part in to help the organisation and we find all about these in our short podcast.
Here are some of the things that Debbie discussed with me and links to the relevant webpage.

Hi there,
Earlier today I had a good chat with Helen Robinson from The Kind Bay Initiative about their Colwyn Bay based organisation which does some amazing work in the community and how the organisation has adapted its role in the wake of Covid-19.
It was a fascinating conversation and I can only thank Helen for such a positive, inspiring outlook in what is a very difficult time.
The Kind Bay will be collecting tins on the doorstep to help give local foodbanks a boost on Sunday evenings between 6-8pm and if you'd like to find out where they are next, please visit their Facebook page and if you can support them in some way, then please get in touch.
Visit their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/thekindbayinitiative/
I do hope you enjoy listening to our chat.
Simon.

Local convenience stores, the pillar of the community, have shifted and adapted the very nature of how they do day-to-day business over the past few weeks.
With the government promising COVID-19 tests for key workers and numerous stores across the UK facing potential staff absences, what can shop owners do to both protect their staff now and continue this until the lockdown is lifted?
Stuart Buchanan asks some questions and brings us a bit more on the story with James Lowman.

Hello there,
In a brand new podcast which was recorded on April 22, I had a chat with Geraint Davies who is Health and Wellbeing Facilitator at Conwy Voluntary Services Council (CVSC) about the impact of Covid-19 on the voluntary and charitable sector and many of the projects which are being supported at the moment.
There's an update on the grants and advice which is available at the end of the phone from the committed team which are still working to look after the needs of the sector and helping make some very special projects possible at this challenging time.
Why not take a listen to the podcast and if you want any further advice or information please give CVSC a call today:
Volunteering enquiries to email volunteering@cvsc.org.uk. Or call 01492 523842/ 523848 /523846
Emergency funds being distributed from CVSC – email grants@cvsc.org.uk. Or phone the team on 01492 523843 / 523845 /523846.
Single Point of Contact – 01492 575544 – this phone line is for people if someone is in need or self-isolating during these difficult and uncertain time, this is being used to signpost for shopping services, collecting prescriptions, picking up the phone for a chat and other needs.

COVID 19: Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay and Beyond

Once again the community spirit of Colwyn Bay, its people and the business community have come shining through in response to the terrible Covid-19 health crisis by producing much needed scrubs for our local hospital.
After a call was put out on Facebook by Mark Clemson from the Colwyn Bay Chamber of Trade, Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay quickly swung into action to begin coordinating the effort needed to make sanitary clothing for our local surgeons, nurses and physicians.
I had a chat with Mark Clemson who has helped organised this with lots of very committed local people and you can hear our chat and find out how to help. Below are the many links and information we chatted about. If you can assist in any way that would be great.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/235563680893807/
Donations still open for next few days as per below link
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/scrubscolwynbaybaecolwyn?utm_term=zdZbmWVaX
The number of volunteers is daily increasing 40-60 already in place with more joining each day.
Priority is to make Scrubs but whilst we are awaiting fabric vols have been using available materials to make Theatre Hats - Bags etc
I ask if anyone has access to cotton 100% or poly mix 65/35 that we could have or any business are willing to support us then we would love to hear from them either via the FB group or email mjclemson@aol.com
We have orders for 60-80 Scrubs outfits and obviously we anticipate that increasing significantly over the coming weeks and months - to make a set of scrubs needs approximately 4.5 metres and the cost of material is approximately £20 per set of scrubs.
To show how your donations and help can make a difference Mark has done some calculations as near enough as possible, based on products from Abakhan and not including the discount.
Based on ‘Sew Me Something’pattern fabric, interfacing and thread costs around £13.83
The Scrub Hub pattern cost £10.43 to make ( based on their calculations of 50m makes 17 uniforms)
Fabric is £2.99 per meter its pollycotton 70% poly 30%cotton and Oxford Blue colour
Thread £3.16 for 4572 meters amazing large cone! Royal blue
Interfacing is £1.55 per meter this is a charcoal coloured one, might need a sewing expert to confirm that its suitable, it looks ok.
Elastic (not needed in Sew me Something pattern) £3.10 per meter.
Once again please help if you can!
All the best,Simon.

With the Coronavirus pandemic sadly dominating everyone's conciousness at the moment, it is easy to forget about the skills training and opportunities which are out there in the community.
If you have been struggling to find employment and the pandemic has effected your ability to reach out to potential employers, maybe now is the time to brush up your confidence, interview skills and CV writing. The Employment Academy at Creating Enterprise in Mochdre aims to provide you with many online courses, advice and help which you can do whilst at home on lockdown.
It doesn’t matter if you have never had a job before, have been out of work for a while or have recently been made redundant Creating Enterprise can help kick-start your future in whatever direction you choose.
I had a chat with Jasmine Rigby who is Creating Enterprise's Community Engagement Officer about what is on offer and what their organisation is all about.
In my short podcast you'll hear about a whole lot about job support and courses such as budgeting which is certainly useful now and in the future.
At the moment their HQ isn't open to call into but you can still go online and book onto a course or give them a call for some valuable advice. You can call 01492 588980 or send an email to employmentacademy@creatingenterprise.org.uk
I hope you find it useful,
Simon.

Over the past few days I've heard of many local organisations and charities who are really making things happen such as the brilliant Kind Bay Initiative.
But there are also individuals and local businesses in the Bay who are really making things happen.
Earlier today on Good Morning Colwyn Bay, I had a video link chat with Paul Clifford who has joined forces with Dink, the propreitor of the Chicago 1935 cafe in the town.
Whilst they are unable to keep trading whilst the lockdown in on, they've channeled their energies into supporting people in the town with many hundreds of children and at our locked down NHS hospitals receiving a thank you egg.
It's a truly inspiring story with the most amazing team behind the scenes and one that I hope you can take a listen to from earlier today.
If you'd like to help out, get involved or would like a bit of help at this tough time please contact Paul via his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/paul.clifford.710
This is what community is all about!
Best wishes,
Simon.

Hi everyone,
Last week on my show I had a chat with Rachel Ginnelly from Conwy Mind about the help as services they provide to help people who might be suffering with mild to moderate issues with mental health.
It's a very stressful time for us all with anxiety and worries over COVID-19 and self isolation making things difficult. There's no need to suffer in silence when Conwy Mind may be able to help.
Please take a listen to the podcast and find out what support Conwy Mind offers and a few tips on how to stay positive during these unprecedented times.
Below are further details of things we had a chat about and some contact details too.
Stay safe everyone,
Simon.
Their website is www.conwymind.org.uk There is a section about volunteering under the get involved tab. There are a lot of helpful guides about coping with mental health under the self-help tab called “Mind Guides”
Conwy Mind will be developing more content about coping with mental health during the coronavirus lockdown over the next couple of weeks, including podcasts. The links to facebook and twitter are on the home page of the website.
As staff are working from home, Conwy Mind would prefer if people contacted them by email or through the contacts page on the website if they have access to the internet, though they will take also take phone calls.
The five ways to wellbeing we discussed and some suggestions of how to integrate them into your daily routine during the coronavirus lockdown are:
Connect - where possible, find a way to communicate with other people each day, through phone calls, social media, skype, by talking to neighbours through your window or doorstep (keeping a safe distance).
Keep learning – This can be things like learning a new recipe, learning to play a musical instrument, using a free app to learn some words in another language, learning a new song, learning how to use your computer to connect to people, learning more about your family history or the history of your local area.
Give – give time to family, neighbours and friends to support them through this difficult time, give time in volunteering, give to charity if you can afford it, give a moment of your time on Thursday evening to clap for keyworkers and be part of the community.
Take Notice – From you windows or on your daily outing for exercise, and take different routes when you go out for daily exercise so that you see different things, take note of the changes to plants in the gardens and open spaces, take notice of any wildlife, take note of buildings in your local area.
Be active – where possible, get outside for daily exercise as allowed, walking , running or cycling; Take part in online exercise sessions such as Joe Wicks, do some cleaning or sorting in your house, dance to your favourite tunes.

Hi, it's Simon here. On Thursday's show I spoke with Emma Pugh from CVSC about the fantastic contribution that volunteers are making to help communities deal with the Coronavirus. Why not listen to our chat?
Amazingly so many people have signed up locally to help at hospitals, to do shopping, deliver medical supplies and buddy with vulnerable people stuck at home during these difficult times.
You might be thinking about giving some of your time too. Emma talks about how her organisation CVSC in the Bay can help you to do this.
There's also news about the Immediate Response grants which are available to help organisations with funding during these days or help make the work that is being done in response to Covid-19 even more effective.
Here are some of the contact numbers which we spoke about with Emma.
Volunteering enquiries to email volunteering@cvsc.org.uk. Or call 01492 523842/ 523848 /523846
Emergency funds being distributed from CVSC – email grants@cvsc.org.uk. Or phone the team on 01492 523843 / 523845 /523846.

Residents in Old Colwyn have come together again to show solidarity and support to the most vulnerable in the community in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Earlier today members of the Old Colwyn Events and Christmas Market team set up a drop-off point at St. John's Church in the village centre.
With the help of the Bay of Colwyn Town Council and local residents, the church has once again become an important focal point for community support.
Director of Old Colwyn Events, Kai Davies said; "As from today our community support hub starts in St.Johns Church, Old Colwyn.
"We will be using the Church for the time being as they currently have no public worship happening, we thank them for allowing us to do this.
"We are hoping that people can donate items to us. We can then sort them and store these items. From there, we will put a plan together so that elderly, vulnerable and self-isolating people can get in touch with us for items they may need.
"You can then either ask us for something you need or a parcel of items that we can deliver to you or you can collect".
Donations can be taken to the church at various points across the weekend and over the next few weeks.
To find out when the hub will be attended please contact 0789 5563527 or email info@oldcolwynevents.co.uk. Updates will also be published on their Facebook page.
Currently the hub are particularly looking for the following items: Long Life Milk, Tinned Items, Cereal, Pastas, Sugar, Tea Bags and Coffee, Cat Foods, Dog Foods, Toilet Roll, Bars of Soap, Washing Up Liquid, Cleaning Products, Washing Powder, Nappies, Paracetamol and Baby Formula.
Kai added; "We are also hoping to be able to take prescriptions to the Pharmacy and help by collecting medication for those unable to get there due to isolation or illness. This can also be requested and we will do what we can.
"Please bear with us if we don’t reply to you straight away. We’ve put this plan together very fast and hope it will help."

In a special Bayside Radio podcast Jeff chats to Nia Higginbotham about the many aspects of Fairtrade Fortnight and some of the things supporting the fortnight across the area.
Nia is the Chair of the Fairtrade committee for the Llandudno and Conwy area. Fairtrade is set up to make sure that farm workers overseas get paid the right wages for their produce.
It ranges from coffee and tea to bananas and also Fairtrade footballs. Look for the Fairtrade logo on the item you buy to make sure you are doing your bit to stop employers getting rich by paying the employees very poor wages.
Previously in her work with TCC she helped steer Wrexham to be the first Fairtrade county in Wales and develop Wales as a Fairtrade nation.
She founded the first Community Organising charity in Wales, bringing together a range of faith and secular groups, which, through a programme of action and training, develop leaders able to translate their beliefs into community change.
Nia has also taught in University, college, distance learning and community settings and continues to be involved with a range of voluntary organisations.

If there's one pantomime to see this year, then Aladdin at Theatr Colwyn is the one!
It's a fantastically family friendly panto with plenty of laughs for children and adults alike and we think it punches well above its weight in terms of entertainment, special effects and energy. It's a big pantomime experience in our local theatre.
Produced by Magic Light Productions and directed by the fantastic Stuart Loughland who plays Mrs. Twankey, you are guaranteed a treat.
Jeff was along at the opening night performance where he met the cast backstage. Listen to them all introduce themselves and give you a glimpse into the local panto of the year.
For more details about the production and ticket availability, please click here.

With not too long before Christmas, I spoke to Sgt Beth Jones of the North Wales Police Central Community Safety team about The Big Easy project and not becoming a victim of crime.
We hear about a fantastic new scheme which allows you to have your bike security marked for free (if you are buying a bike for yourself or as a present from a number of local retailers, please make a note). There's also advice on storing your presents away and some easy steps to make sure that the locks you have securing your property are fit for purpose.
So please take a listen to my podcast. If its stops you or your family from having an unhappy Christmas, I'll be rather pleased about that!
Here are some important links which are mentioned in the podcast.

Saturday at this year's Old Colwyn Christmas Market failed to disappoint as the event returned even bigger and better for 2019.
The weather remained good as crowds packed onto Cefn Road to enjoy some old fashioned Christmas fayre and entertainment. This year saw the introduction of a new covered marquee area for shopping and for watching the stage performers. Festive shoppers also had the opportunity to buy gifts and Christmas merchandise in St. John's Church.
Jeff was there to give a flavour of the first day and spoke to stall holders, organisers and members of the community about why the market is such an important part of the Old Colwyn community.
The market is back for its second day on Sunday 9th December starting at 10am.

This special one-off podcast takes listeners back to the days when Mod culture was big in Colwyn Bay and across the North Wales coast.
We remember the roots of the movement back in the sixties and what it became in the 1980s from local people who lived and experienced it first hand.
As you will hear, many memories and stories were inspired by a fringe photography exhibition that showed at 22 Station Road as part of the Northern Eye Photography Festival. The exhibition titled 'Welsh Mod' took a look at this subculture through the lens of celebrated photographer Haydn Denman and was supported by Imagine Colwyn Bay.
Bayside's Simon Wynne joined Helen Jackson to talk to some of the many people who came by to share their memories.
Imagine Colwyn Bay is a Heritage Fund, Great Place Scheme which between now and March 2021 aims to harness interest in the town’s unique past to inspire and connect people through an innovative programme of cultural activities, exhibitions and events.
In addition, there will be support for the development of a Creative Industry hub to offer learning, delivery opportunities and attract further investment into the area.
The project is supported with thanks to National Lottery players through the Heritage Fund, Great Place scheme, The Bay of Colwyn Town Council, Conwy County Borough Council and Colwyn BID.

The Colwyn in Bloom competition for schools is a open competition that any school in the Bay of Colwyn area can enter. This year we had 3 entries from Ysgol St Josephs, Llandrillo yn Rhos and Pen y Bryn.
Cllr Paul Richards and myself judged them on nine criteria among them are colour and the presentation of the flower beds, Watering Collection of rain water to use, wildlife presevation cleanliness and storage of the tools.
They all are judged individually and they can win either Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt or Gold Awards and there is a overhaul winner who get an award for best school. We were impressed by all three schools and the hard work that as gone into the entry into the competition this year
Take a listen to the hard working pupils and teachers who talk about what they have done.
Jeff.

A recent dementia-friendly screening of hit film The Greatest Showman was made extra special when Welsh National Opera singers enticed the cinema audience to its feet and a local school choir delivered stunning renditions of the movie’s biggest numbers.
In a collaboration with Theatr Colwyn, the Welsh National Opera team, based at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, lead cinema audiences in singalongs once each month before every dementia-friendly movie screening begins.
The aim is to give people living with dementia who might find it difficult to sit still quietly during a normal film screening the opportunity to enjoy cultural events with their family, friends and carers in everyday settings like cinemas.
Earlier today Bayside Radio's Jeff Pearson spoke with WNO youth and community projects leader, Morgana Warren Jones about the success of the project.

Ahead of a special and unique show at Theatr Colwyn, Bayside Radio's Jeff Pearson meets Naturalist and Conservationist David Woodfall to discuss a concept called 'Rewilding'.

Rewilding has become the key talking point in the modern conservation movement. But it’s commonly misunderstood as a campaign to fill the forests with lynxes, wolves and bears, when in fact the ethos guiding the British rewilding movement is much more nuanced, and much broader in scope. It’s also much more complicated, requiring an in-depth understanding of the complexity of regional ecosystems.
David has spent years working in the countryside, meeting the people on the frontline of rewilding and collecting their stories and photographing wildlife. Woodfall’s stunning nature photography offers an in-depth understanding of an essential Rewilding movement and the people leading it.
Spending over 22 years photographing nature, BBC Wildlife has described him as ‘the poet laureate of British and Irish landscapes'.
He has won a number of international awards including category winners in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards and in Natures Best (USA). Both his books, Natural Heartlands and Flowers at my Feet have been highly commended in the Natural History Book of the Year Awards.
On Saturday 20th April, Theatr Colwyn present a unique collaboration combining the photography of David Woodfall with new music from the celebrated Welsh jazz pianist Huw Warren.

The Llanddulas Row is a fantastic community event that has really captured the imagination and excitement of pupils at Ysgol Llanddulas and the community at large.
