Plans for a major solar farm and battery energy storage scheme covering more than 180 hectares of farmland near Bodelwyddan have sparked opposition from Clwyd MS Darren Millar.

Energy company Stantec UK Limited, acting on behalf of London-based Bodelwyddan Solar and Energy Storage Ltd, has submitted proposals to Conwy County Borough Council for the large-scale development on land north and south of Bodelwyddan.

The application also includes a cable corridor linking the proposed site to Bodelwyddan Substation.

Mr Millar has criticised the plans, arguing that valuable agricultural land should be protected at a time when food security is becoming increasingly important.

“This industrial scale development will result in the loss of 180 hectares of prime agricultural land,” he said.

“It’s totally unacceptable at a time when global uncertainty means that food security is more important now than ever.

“You could fit two traditional nuclear power stations into a 180 hectare footprint site and each could produce nine times the energy output of this project.

“I’m all for solar power but let’s install panels on roof spaces, on top of warehouses and above car parks, not at an industrial scale on our farmland.”

The proposals form part of a growing push for renewable energy developments across North Wales as governments seek to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy security.

The Welsh Government has set ambitious targets for renewable energy as part of its wider net zero strategy, including aims for Wales to generate the equivalent of 100 per cent of its annual electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2035.

Planning policy in Wales also supports the expansion of renewable and low-carbon energy developments where schemes are considered environmentally acceptable and contribute towards tackling climate change.

Large-scale solar developments have become increasingly common across Wales and the UK in recent years, particularly when linked with battery energy storage systems designed to store electricity generated during daylight hours for use during periods of high demand.

Supporters of such schemes argue that solar farms can help reduce reliance on fossil fuels, strengthen energy resilience and provide cleaner electricity generation. However, developments on agricultural land have also attracted criticism from some politicians, farming groups and local residents concerned about landscape impacts and the loss of productive farmland.

The proposed Bodelwyddan scheme is expected to be considered by Conwy planners following consultation and assessment of environmental and technical reports submitted as part of the application.

A team of staff from Grŵp Llandrillo Menai are preparing to push themselves to the limit this summer as they take on a gruelling charity relay challenge to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Eleven members of staff from across the group will take part in the Coast-to-Care Relay on July 2 and 3, testing both their physical and mental endurance in aid of the two hospitals.

The challenge will begin with participants running four miles every four hours over a 48-hour period before taking on an exhausting 82-mile overnight relay from Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

Among those taking part are work-based learning staff, examinations officers, wellbeing coordinators and higher education staff from across Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.

Jenny Davies, Staff Wellbeing Coordinator, said every donation would help motivate the team through the difficult challenge ahead.

“Every donation, big or small, will be helping other people and that’s a great motivator,” she said.

“I love running trails but the road is a bit of a challenge for me, so I am glad of the motivation, and the positive attitude of my teammates.”

Chris Hughes said he was looking forward to taking part and described the fundraiser as a challenge too good to turn down.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of the team on the day,” he said. “Training has been going well and I chose to take part because I love a challenge for such a worthy cause.”

Owain Evans said the hospitals chosen for the fundraiser had supported many people across the region.

“I am proud to join the team to support Ysbyty Gwynedd and Alder Hey, two organisations that have provided support to a large number of people in the area,” he said.

Months of preparation have already gone into the event, with runners building stamina and overcoming injuries along the way.

Klare Holland-Jones described her training as a “dual mission” of pushing herself personally while raising money for hospitals which have helped many of her loved ones.

Reflecting on her progress, she said she had gone “from 5k to 16 miles” during training and was determined to “go the extra mile” for the cause.

Gethin Jones, meanwhile, has had to manage a calf injury while preparing for the relay but said supporting the charities made taking part a “no-brainer”.

“My training is going ok, but I had to ease up over the last couple of weeks as I have pulled my calf muscle,” he said.

“Fortunately it is healing well and I’ve kept going by often running with my daughter in her buggy at Rhos Parkrun.”

Liz Hughes said the challenge was insignificant compared to what many families face when dealing with childhood illness.

“I want to use this to support children and families who face challenges far greater than any training run,” she said.

“If my part in this journey helps Ysbyty Gwynedd and Alder Hey even a little, then every step is worth it.”

The team is now appealing for public support as they continue preparations for the relay challenge next month.

Passengers are being warned of major disruption on the North Wales railway line next weekend as essential engineering work takes place between Chester and Llandudno Junction.

The railway will close in the early hours of Saturday, June 6 and reopen in the early hours of Monday, June 8, allowing Network Rail teams uninterrupted access to carry out maintenance and improvement work linked to the ongoing Network North Wales upgrade programme and the recent introduction of a new timetable.

A series of projects will be completed across the route during the closure.

In Pensarn, foundation and site preparation work will take place ahead of the installation of a new accessible footbridge.

Network Rail has previously described the nearby Pen Uchaf and Ty Gwyn level crossings at Pensarn as among the highest-risk crossings on the Wales and Borders network. The crossings are regularly used by families, dog walkers and holidaymakers, with reports of near misses and misuse recorded in recent years.

The new accessible footbridge forms part of wider plans to provide a safer route across the railway ahead of increased train services on the North Wales Coast line. Network Rail says closing or replacing level crossings is the most effective way to reduce the risk of accidents on the railway.

The bridge is also intended to improve accessibility for pedestrians, including people with reduced mobility, cyclists and families with pushchairs, while supporting future active travel links in the area.

At Flint, drainage improvements will be carried out to help reduce the risk of flooding and improve the long-term resilience of the railway.

Meanwhile, at Rhyl, sleeper replacements will be carried out on Saturday night to help maintain track quality and provide smoother, more reliable journeys for passengers.

No train services will run between Chester and Llandudno Junction during the closure, with replacement transport operating instead.

The work forms part of continued investment in the North Wales railway and is aimed at maintaining reliability following the recent timetable uplift, which has introduced 50 per cent more train services across the route.

The improvements will also support future accessibility upgrades and help keep the railway safe and resilient for passengers, staff and freight services.

Colin Lea, Planning and Performance Director at Transport for Wales, said: “We’re encouraging all passengers travelling between Llandudno Junction and Chester to check before they travel over the weekend.

“As no trains will run between these destinations, our Manchester Airport, Cardiff Central and Liverpool Lime Street services will start and terminate at Chester, while services from Holyhead will terminate at Llandudno Junction.

“We’ll be running rail replacement services between Llandudno Junction and Chester roughly every half an hour on the Saturday, and every hour on the Sunday. We’ll also have ticket acceptance in place with Arriva Bus.

“Please allow extra time for your journey and check before you travel using our website or app.”

Passengers are being urged to plan ahead and check journeys before travelling.

Welsh Conservative leader and Clwyd MS Darren Millar is urging people across North Wales to get behind this year’s Prostate Cymru Walk of Wales in a bid to raise awareness and vital funds for men’s cancer care.

The nationwide event aims to bring together residents, businesses, families and community groups to support those affected by prostate cancer while raising money for specialist NHS cancer nurses across Wales.

Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer affecting men in the UK, with around one in eight men diagnosed during their lifetime. The risk rises to one in four for Black men and one in three for those with a family history of the disease.

This year, Prostate Cymru has set a fundraising target of £300,000, with every penny going towards funding specialist prostate cancer nurses within Welsh health boards.

The charity says the funding will help ensure men diagnosed with prostate cancer in Wales can access expert and compassionate support from the very beginning of their treatment journey.

Encouraging people in Clwyd and across the region to get involved, Darren Millar said the event was an important opportunity to support families affected by the disease and raise awareness around men’s health.

“Prostate cancer affects far too many families across Wales,” he said.

“Events like the Prostate Cymru Walk of Wales not only raise vital funds, but also help raise awareness and encourage important conversations around men’s health.

“I encourage everyone who can to take part, support the walkers and help make a real difference.”

The Walk of Wales is open to people of all ages and abilities, whether participants are walking in memory of a loved one, supporting somebody currently undergoing treatment or simply wanting to back a worthwhile cause.

Prostate Cymru says the event is designed to unite communities across Wales while helping improve cancer care and support services for men facing prostate disease.

People wanting to take part can register through Prostate Cymru’s official Walk of Wales page.

New figures from Wales’ first annual surveillance report into the impact of cold weather have revealed there were around six more deaths per day on cold days during the winter of 2024-25 compared to milder days.

The report, published by Public Health Wales, found people aged 85 and over were the most affected during colder periods, while women also recorded higher mortality rates on cold days compared to non-cold days after age standardisation.

Researchers stressed the report does not prove cold weather directly caused the deaths, but instead looks at patterns and timings linked to periods of low temperatures.

The winter of 2024-25 was described as slightly milder overall than the long-term average between 1991 and 2020, although there were still 78 days that met the report’s definition of a “cold period” – when mean temperatures were 2°C or below for at least two consecutive days.

Public health experts say the findings are intended to help build a clearer picture of how cold weather impacts health in Wales, particularly among more vulnerable groups.

Dr Behrooz Behbod, Consultant Epidemiologist, said: “This is the first in this series of reports which looks at the public health impact of cold weather, in the context of climate change.

“While the winter of 2024-25 was marginally milder than the climatological baseline built up over 1991-2020, it is important to look at the impact of cold snaps on more vulnerable populations.”

The report also noted several factors were not included in the analysis, including housing conditions, indoor temperatures, fuel poverty and ethnicity data.

Dr Behbod added: “This report is a starting point for further work in this area. It is designed to be a narrative report, and does not show cause and effect or compare groups with each other.”

Public Health Wales said future versions of the report may include wider data to better understand how cold weather affects different communities across the country.

The Welsh Government has pledged urgent action to improve the resilience of the Menai crossings after another week of disruption and repeated closures of the Menai Suspension Bridge caused by overweight vehicles ignoring restrictions.

Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper said communities on both sides of the Menai Strait had been “let down for too long” and promised both short-term measures and longer-term solutions would be announced soon.

The statement comes after a series of incidents in recent days which saw the historic bridge repeatedly closed for emergency inspections after vehicles over the 7.5 tonne weight limit crossed the structure.

Temporary traffic lights and enhanced monitoring measures have now been introduced on the bridge for the duration of the Urdd Eisteddfod, which is being held on Ynys Môn this week and is expected to attract thousands of visitors.

Mr Hooper said: “Recent restrictions on the Menai Bridge have been deeply frustrating, particularly during such an important week for Ynys Môn and across Wales, with the Urdd Eisteddfod taking place.

“We reiterate that only vehicles under 7.5 tonnes may use the bridge. Following recent breaches, traffic lights will operate for the duration of the Urdd Eisteddfod. Overweight vehicles will be turned away, with non-compliance referred to the police.”

The bridge has faced mounting pressure since permanent weight restrictions were introduced in 2022 after engineers discovered serious structural concerns linked to the ageing suspension hangers.

Since then, only vehicles below 7.5 tonnes have been permitted to use the crossing, while heavier traffic has been diverted to Britannia Bridge.

In the past week alone, multiple overweight vehicles have triggered closures and lengthy delays while safety inspections were carried out. Traffic Wales confirmed the bridge had to be shut several times after restricted vehicles crossed despite the rules being in place.

The latest disruption has renewed criticism over the lack of resilience in the transport network linking Ynys Môn with the mainland, with businesses, residents and commuters repeatedly warning of the economic and social impact caused by closures to either crossing.

Mr Hooper said additional police officers and Welsh Government Traffic Officers were now being deployed to keep the bridge open and ensure drivers complied with restrictions.

“We urge the public to respect those working on the bridge and follow their instructions,” he added.

“People in Ynys Môn and across north Wales have been let down for too long when it comes to the resilience of the Menai crossings. This new Welsh Government will act with greater urgency and focus.”

The Welsh Government said work had already begun on developing plans aimed at improving the long-term reliability and resilience of the crossings across the Menai Strait.

“Communities on both sides of the Strait deserve reliable connections, and we are determined to provide them,” Mr Hooper said.

Rhyl RNLI crews carried out a series of dramatic rescues along the North Wales coast this week after multiple people, including children and paddleboarders, got into difficulty in the sea.

Rhyl’s RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called to one incident on Tuesday and two further emergencies on Wednesday afternoon, with crews rescuing five people in total from the water.

The first callout came on Tuesday when Rhyl Lifeguards were alerted by a concerned member of the public who reported that two children had gone missing after last being seen near the water’s edge.

Rhyl’s Inshore Lifeboat was paged to carry out a shoreline search while RNLI lifeguards and Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team searched the beach and promenade.

After around 30 minutes, the children were found safe and well and all emergency crews were stood down.

The following afternoon proved even busier for crews, with the first emergency reported shortly after 2pm off Pensarn.

A child on a bodyboard had reportedly been blown out to sea, while two other people entered the water in an attempt to help.

The inshore lifeboat arrived quickly at the scene and assisted the casualties safely back to shore, where they received medical attention.

While returning from that rescue, crews were immediately tasked to a second emergency after reports that several people had been blown out to sea on two paddleboards off the Nova Centre in Prestatyn.

Four casualties were rescued from the water by the lifeboat crew and brought safely ashore to waiting lifeguards.

As the crew headed back towards shore, they spotted a fifth paddleboarder struggling around 600 metres from the beach.

The individual was also rescued safely, bringing the total number of people assisted during the day to five.

The RNLI has now issued a fresh warning about the dangers of open water, particularly during warm weather and offshore winds which can quickly carry inflatables and paddleboards further out to sea.

The charity is urging anyone heading into the water to check weather conditions carefully, understand the environment around them and remember the RNLI’s “Float to Live” advice if they get into difficulty.

RNLI crews also thanked RNLI Lifeguards North Wales, Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team, North Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust for assisting during the incidents.

Cases of diabetes in Wales are rising faster than previously predicted, according to new NHS figures which have prompted warnings of a growing public health challenge.

Data from StatsWales shows 230,371 adults aged 17 and over were living with diabetes in 2025 – a rise of 3.5% on the previous year and far ahead of earlier forecasts.

Public Health Wales had previously projected the number of diabetes cases would exceed 260,000 by 2035, but the latest trends suggest that figure could now be reached much sooner.

Health experts say around one in five adults in Wales is now living with either diabetes or pre-diabetes, while tens of thousands more people are thought to be undiagnosed.

Type 2 diabetes accounts for around 90% of all cases and is closely linked to obesity and deprivation. The condition disproportionately affects people from South Asian, Black African and Black Caribbean backgrounds.

A further 269,747 people in Wales are estimated to be living with pre-diabetes, where blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough for a diabetes diagnosis.

Public Health Wales warned that if diabetes is left unmanaged it can lead to serious long-term complications including sight loss, kidney disease, nerve damage and cardiovascular disease.

The figures underline growing concerns over what campaigners have described as a “hidden crisis”, with increasing pressure on NHS services as more people require ongoing treatment and monitoring.

While Type 2 diabetes is strongly associated with lifestyle and health inequalities, Type 1 diabetes – which cannot be prevented – continues to affect thousands of younger people across Wales.

Health professionals continue to encourage people to maintain a healthy weight, stay physically active and attend regular health checks to help reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes or identify the condition earlier.

Held at Police Headquarters in Colwyn Bay on Saturday, May 23, the event brought together officers, staff, volunteers, blue light services and partner agencies for a day focused on community engagement, education and family-friendly activities.

Visitors enjoyed a packed programme throughout the day, including police dog demonstrations, a joint fire and ambulance service display, emergency vehicle exhibitions, interactive children’s activities and a visit from the police helicopter.

The event also offered people the opportunity to learn more about modern policing in North Wales and explore potential career opportunities within the force.

A range of seminars and safety initiatives formed part of the day, including “Olivia’s Story”, which shares the story of 17-year-old Olivia Alkir, who tragically lost her life in a road traffic collision near Ruthin in June 2019.

Motorcyclists were also able to attend a safer riding seminar highlighting BikeSafe workshops and practical advice aimed at improving road safety.

The force and its partners also hosted a number of information stands focused on road safety, agricultural vehicles, HGV and trailer safety.

Partner organisations attending included Môn Search and Rescue (MônSAR), HM Coastguard, the RNLI and Mental Health Motorbikes.

A Coleg Llandrillo student has helped drive major changes aimed at making North Wales Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner more accessible to the Deaf community.

Paula Williams, from Flint, is currently studying British Sign Language (BSL) Level 4 at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus and has been praised for helping to break down communication barriers faced by Deaf people across North Wales.

Her efforts have already led to the creation of a new BSL Hub on the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s website, including a fully accessible BSL version of the Police and Crime Plan.

Paula said she was inspired to take action after seeing the everyday challenges faced by close friends within the Deaf community.

“I know the daily barriers they have to try and overcome,” she explained.

“Say somebody discovered a dropped purse in the street and wants to take it to the local police station. How are they going to communicate? Not everyone in the Deaf community reads and writes, or lipreads. For some, their first and only language is sign language.

“Passing notes over a counter is such an outdated system. I really want the Deaf community to feel valued, included, and to live an independent life.”

Paula contacted North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin directly to ask whether more information could be made available through videos interpreted in BSL.

Since then, she has worked with police representatives and accessibility specialists to highlight areas where services could be improved.

“I’ve only been talking to them since October,” Paula said.

“They’ve acted so quickly — I’m amazed and so thankful. They are even going above and beyond things I initially asked for to make a difference and bridge the gap with communication and access.”

Following Paula’s requests, the Office of the PCC partnered with Sign Solutions to introduce accessibility upgrades, with hopes of expanding BSL provision further in the future.

Mr Dunbobbin praised Paula for helping push forward improvements.

“I value the input of members of the public, and sometimes it takes great people like Paula to come to us and ask why we aren’t doing something or tell us that we should offer a different or better service,” he said.

“It’s for all of us involved in public service to rise to the challenge and meet the expectations of residents.

“I hope this is the start of a much-improved provision of opportunity and access for the BSL community in North Wales from my office and the Force.”

Paula said the confidence to speak up came from the support she has received from the Deaf Studies department at Coleg Llandrillo.

“I am so blessed to be taught the majority of my years of study here at Llandrillo College for British Sign Language by David Duller,” she said.

“I have only gotten this far thanks to his expertise, wisdom, encouragement, and especially patience.”

Her tutor David Duller described Paula’s dedication to the Deaf community as “exceptional”.

“Her willingness to give additional time to attend and support Deaf events is truly inspiring,” he added.

Paula is now aiming to complete her Level 6 qualification and become a registered BSL interpreter, with demand for qualified interpreters expected to grow following the introduction of the British Sign Language Bill.

She also hopes her experience will inspire more people to learn sign language.

“Learn a new language which is fun, and get continued support from top-class lecturers,” she said. “I’m glad I did.”

A man arrested in connection with the death of a 34-year-old man at a beach in Barmouth has been released on bail as police investigations continue.

The man died following an incident in the water at the seaside town’s beach on Monday, May 25. His family are continuing to receive support from specially trained officers.

A 24-year-old man from the Birmingham area who was arrested in connection with the investigation has since been released on bail while assisting officers with their enquiries.

Detectives have renewed appeals for witnesses and for anyone with photos or video footage from the beach that afternoon to come forward.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Chris Bell said: “I would like to thank all members of the public who assisted the man on the beach on Monday, and to everybody who has contacted us since.

“We have received an overwhelming response from the public, which is incredibly helpful to our enquiries.

“I am continuing to urge anybody who was at Barmouth beach on Monday 25 May and witnessed the incident, and hasn’t already spoken to police, to get in touch.

“I am also re-appealing to anybody who was on the beach between 2pm and 4pm who took any photos and videos to send them to us as soon as possible. We are interested in all photos or videos taken on any part of the beach during the afternoon.

“Any image could be relevant to our investigation.

“My thoughts remain with the man’s family at this difficult time.”

North Wales Police said there would continue to be an increased police presence in the Barmouth area for reassurance purposes.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has photos or footage from the beach has been urged to upload them to the force’s Major Incident Police Portal or contact police directly.

Temporary traffic lights and a new monitoring system have been introduced on the Menai Suspension Bridge after another series of closures caused by overweight vehicles crossing the historic structure.

It is the third time in around a week the bridge has been shut for safety inspections after vehicles exceeding the 7.5-tonne weight restriction were driven across.

Traffic Wales updates showed the bridge was first closed around lunchtime before reopening a short time later. However, it had to be shut again after a second restricted vehicle crossed the bridge.

The closures led to significant delays on the westbound A55 near the exits for both the Menai Bridge and the nearby Britannia Bridge crossing.

Congestion also built up on Anglesey on approaches to both bridges, causing disruption for motorists travelling during one of the busiest weeks of the year as the Urdd Eisteddfod continues on the island.

The Welsh Government said it would now take tougher action against drivers ignoring the restrictions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, a spokesperson said temporary traffic lights would remain in operation until the end of the Urdd Eisteddfod later this week.

The statement said: “We understand the frustration caused by the closures of the Menai bridge during this busy time and are doing everything we can to minimise disruption.

“Only vehicles under 7.5 tonnes may use the Menai Bridge. Following recent breaches, traffic lights will now be in operation on the bridge from this evening (27 May) and for the duration of Urdd Eisteddfod.

“Operatives will turn away vehicles which are over the weight limit. Those who fail to comply will be referred to the police, and we will increase police and Welsh Government Traffic Officer presence to support compliance.

“We would urge members of the public to respect those working on the bridge and to follow their instructions.

“Improving resilience across the Menai Strait remains a key priority for Welsh Government as part of our wider transport and economic ambitions.”

The Menai Suspension Bridge has faced ongoing traffic restrictions and monitoring measures since structural concerns were identified in 2022, with authorities continuing to closely monitor vehicle movements across the crossing.

The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for large parts of North Wales, with heavy downpours, lightning and possibly hail expected to hit some areas later today.

The warning is in place from 3pm this afternoon until midnight and covers Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and the Isle of Anglesey.

Forecasters say many areas may avoid the worst of the storms, but some parts of North Wales could see intense thunderstorms bringing torrential rain, frequent lightning, large hail and strong gusty winds this afternoon and evening.

The Met Office warned that driving conditions could quickly deteriorate due to spray, standing water and hail, potentially leading to longer journey times and disruption to bus services.

There is also a risk of delays to train services, short-term power cuts and flooding to a small number of homes and businesses.

Lightning strikes could also cause damage to some buildings and structures.

The warning follows another spell of hot weather across Wales, with the unstable conditions expected to trigger scattered thunderstorms later in the day.

The Met Office said: “While many places will miss the worst conditions, where thunderstorms do occur they bring the potential for torrential downpours of rain, frequent lightning, large hail and strong, gusty winds.”

Residents are being advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts as conditions could change quickly.

People living in areas prone to flash flooding are being urged to prepare emergency flood kits and consider flood plans, while motorists are advised to check travel conditions before setting off.

The Met Office also warned people caught outdoors during thunderstorms to seek enclosed shelter, such as inside a vehicle, and avoid standing near trees or elevated areas which could be struck by lightning.

Forecasters said the warning has been classified as “medium likelihood” with “low impact”, meaning disruption is possible in some locations but not expected to be widespread.

Hundreds of cyclists are expected to saddle up this summer as the popular Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Cycle Challenge returns after last year’s event was cancelled due to storm damage.

The annual fundraiser will take place on Sunday, August 9, with riders once again taking on scenic but demanding routes through North and Mid Wales.

The challenge traditionally raises thousands of pounds each year to support children with life-threatening conditions and their families.

Cyclists can choose between a 56-mile route to Lake Vyrnwy or a tougher 70-mile ride to Bala Lake, which returns via Bwlch y Groes — one of the highest public road mountain passes in Wales, reaching a summit altitude of 545 metres.

The 2025 event had to be cancelled after routes around Lake Vyrnwy were left impassable following damage caused by Storm Darragh.

Alongside the physical ride, organisers are also bringing back the virtual Cycle100 challenge, allowing supporters to complete 100 miles throughout August in their own way.

Harriet Richards, fundraiser for the hospices, said organisers were excited to welcome cyclists back.

She said: “We are delighted to bring back the Cycle Challenge for summer 2026, kindly sponsored by RUK Group, alongside our virtual Cycle100.

“We know how much our cyclists look forward to this event every year and we can’t wait to welcome everyone once again to ride and to raise money which will help children with life-threatening conditions to live their best life.

“The day itself is also a fantastic celebration of cycling, fun and beautiful English and Welsh countryside.”

She added that places were expected to fill quickly following the event’s year-long absence.

Participants can either pay a £25 entry fee and raise a minimum of £75 sponsorship, or pay £45 with no sponsorship target.

The Cycle100 virtual challenge is free to enter, with a suggested sponsorship target of £25.

Funds raised will support the work of Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith, which provide specialist care and support for seriously ill children and their families across North Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire and Mid Wales.

More information and registration details are available via the Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith website.
