Woman confirmed as victim in Prestatyn murder probe

Police have confirmed that a woman was found dead inside a burning van in Prestatyn, as detectives continue to investigate her death.

Emergency services were called to Gas Works Lane at around 11.30pm on Sunday, October 4, after reports that a van was on fire.

A Home Office post-mortem examination has confirmed that the remains recovered from the vehicle were those of an adult woman.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, and North Wales Police is urging people not to speculate about the woman's identity on social media. The coroner is being kept informed.

A 38-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody and is being questioned. An extension to his detention was granted on Tuesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Zoie Dunkerley said police understood the incident would have caused concern in the local community.

Officers will maintain a visible presence in the area and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to them.

Police have also thanked members of the public who have already provided information and are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have information that could help the investigation to come forward.
