Swift justice as Ffestiniog man jailed for abuse

A man from Gwynedd has been jailed after carrying out a violent attack on his former partner and causing significant damage to her home.

Leon Thomas, of Llan Ffestiniog, appeared before Caernarfon Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with two counts of criminal damage and assault causing physical harm.

The court heard that in the early hours of 27 April, Thomas became aggressive after his ex-partner asked him to leave her address. His behaviour quickly escalated, with Thomas damaging property inside the home before repeatedly punching the victim in the face.

Despite the ordeal, the woman managed to force him out of the property. However, Thomas later returned and attempted to gain entry again, kicking both the front and back doors and causing further damage.

Police were called to the scene and officers located Thomas nearby, where he was arrested. He later admitted the offences.

Thomas has now been sentenced to 35 weeks in prison. In addition, he has been made subject to a three-year Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO), designed to safeguard the victim from further harm.

Detective Constable Annie Britton said Thomas had demonstrated he posed a serious risk, noting his history of domestic violence. She praised the victim’s courage in removing him from her home and said she hoped the swift action taken would provide reassurance.

Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling domestic abuse and urged anyone experiencing similar situations to come forward, stressing that support is available and reports will be taken seriously.
