Sirrell’s 100th appearance ends in frustration for Bay

An early missed penalty proved costly as Colwyn Bay were held to a 0-0 draw away to struggling Llanelli Town in Lewis Sirrell’s 100th appearance for the club.

Bottom of the table Llanelli picked up their first point of the season thanks to some big saves from keeper Alex Pennock and wasteful Colwyn Bay finishing.

The penalty came after just 10 minutes for a clumsy challenge on Uniss Kargbo, but Louis Robles saw his poor spot kick saved and the rebound was blazed over the bar.

Chances were few and far between after that, although Louis Robles fired another opportunity over the bar from 12 yards, Jamie Cumming had a shot blocked and Pennock made a fine save to keep out an Aaron Williams header.

In the second half Llanelli’s Alex Bonthron had an effort cleared off the line, and the home side put a far post header wide.

Pennock made another big save from Aaron Williams and in the closing stages Issa Kargbo fired a chance set up by Ethan Roberts and Jordan Davies over the bar, and Aeron Edwards hit another effort over the goal immediately after coming off the bench.

Bay will be disappointed to have only taken a point from the game and miss out on a chance to move into the top four of the JD Cymru Premier League – although they have another opportunity on Tuesday evening when Bala Town come to the Blue Turtle Arena (7:45pm kick-off)
