RGC has produced a dominant all-round performance to secure a convincing 39–12 bonus-point win over Aberavon RFC at Stadiwm Eirias.
Defensively solid, disciplined at the breakdown and clinical in attack, the Gogs showed exactly why they are building momentum at a crucial stage of the season.
It was the visitors who struck first, capitalising on early pressure to cross through Keilen Cullen. But RGC responded immediately, with Sam Jones racing over after a sharp break, before Billy McBryde added the extras.
Aberavon briefly regained the lead through Scott Delnevo, but from that point on RGC began to assert control. McBryde’s accurate boot kept the scoreboard ticking, while the pack started to dominate at scrum time, giving the home side a platform to build from.
The turning point came early in the second half with a moment of brilliance from Dion Jones, whose clever offload set up Sam Jones for his second try of the afternoon. From there, RGC tightened their grip on the game.
Aberavon pushed hard, enjoying spells of possession and territory, but were repeatedly shut down by a determined RGC defence, with players like Sam Williams and Dafydd Thirsk standing firm.
As the visitors tired, RGC stepped up the intensity. Connor Dever’s quick thinking and Harper Chamberlain’s power saw the home side extend their lead, before Louis Williams secured the all-important bonus-point try.
Delwyn Jones added a late score to cap off an impressive display, with McBryde’s final conversion rounding off a comprehensive victory.
After the match, Connor Dever said the team are turning Stadiwm Eirias into a “fortress” and believes confidence is growing at just the right time.
With the playoffs approaching, RGC will now look to build on this performance when they return to home turf to face Carmarthen next weekend — knowing momentum could be key in the weeks ahead.
