A motorcyclist has had their bike seized after being caught travelling at 56mph in a 30mph zone in Llandudno.

North Wales Police said the rider was stopped by officers after being detected travelling at almost twice the speed limit.

The force said it was not the first time the rider had come to police attention. The same officer had previously stopped them over concerns about their manner of riding, while a Section 59 notice had also previously been issued by a North Wales Police dog section officer.

Due to what police described as the repeated anti-social use of the motorcycle, the bike was seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.

The rider’s father later attended the scene and thanked the officer for taking action. Police said he had previously been concerned about his son’s riding and was relieved the motorcycle had been removed.

North Wales Police said the action comes as the summer holidays get underway and roads across the region become busier with families, pedestrians, cyclists and visitors.

The force reminded motorists and riders that excessive speed in built-up areas can put lives at risk.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said enforcement is not about catching people out, but about preventing serious collisions and protecting communities.

They added that drivers and riders should slow down, ride responsibly and consider the consequences before speeding.
