A new community festival celebrating recovery, resilience and the power of connection is set to take place in North Wales this summer.
Recovery Rocks will be held at Llanfairfechan Community Hall on Saturday, August 1, from 12pm until 6pm, bringing together live music, spoken word performances, fitness sessions and family-friendly activities in an alcohol and drug-free environment.
Created by people with lived experience of addiction and recovery, the festival aims to challenge the stigma surrounding addiction while highlighting the positive and fulfilling lives that recovery can make possible.
Organisers say the event is designed to be inclusive, welcoming not only people in recovery but also families, friends, supporters, those exploring sobriety and anyone looking to enjoy a positive day out.
Festival co-organiser Alex Magson said recovery had transformed his own life.
“Recovery Rocks was created to help make recovery visible,” he said.
“Recovery unlocked my potential and completely changed the direction of my life. It gave me opportunities, purpose, friendship and a community I never knew existed.
“This festival is about showing people that recovery doesn’t close doors – it opens them. We want people to come along, have fun, make connections and see what’s possible when recovery becomes about living rather than simply surviving.”
Visitors can enjoy performances from local musicians, bands, poets and community performers, alongside a RockBox fitness session, recovery games, a Best Dressed Rock Star competition, a festival DJ and quiet holistic spaces for those looking for a more relaxed environment.
Co-organiser Sophie McCluskey said the event is about making recovery more visible and celebrating the achievements of people across the region.
“Recovery can often feel invisible, yet there are thousands of people across North Wales rebuilding their lives every day,” she said.
“Recovery Rocks is an opportunity to celebrate those journeys, reduce stigma and show that recovery is not just about stopping something – it’s about discovering what becomes possible when people are given the chance to thrive.
“The festival is for anyone who wants to be part of a positive community event. Whether you’re in recovery, supporting someone you care about, curious about sobriety, exploring changes in your own life, or simply looking for a fun, family-friendly day out, you’ll be made very welcome.”
As well as entertainment throughout the day, food will be available and organisers hope the event will attract people from across North Wales to experience a welcoming atmosphere centred on hope, wellbeing and community.
Recovery Rocks has been made possible through the support of volunteers, local performers, community organisations and partners committed to strengthening recovery communities across the region.
The festival takes place at Llanfairfechan Community Hall on Saturday, August 1, from 12pm to 6pm. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
