Parents urged to stay vigilant after local road collisions

North Wales Police have warned road users and parents to stay vigilant after three children were involved in road accidents last week.

Incidents included children running or cycling into the road, resulting in minor injuries.

A four-year-old child was injured after they ran out onto Maesdu Road in Llandudno and collided with a vehicle last Friday afternoon.

Later that day a nine-year-old child has ridden a bike down an embankment into the road in Bangor before being struck by a vehicle.

And a short while later a five-year-old child was injured after they ran out onto the road and collided with a vehicle in Criccieth.

Inspector Leigh Evans said: “Thankfully, none of the children were seriously injured, however the outcome could have been very different.

“We are calling on everyone to ensure children are supervised and kept safe near our roads. We know it can be difficult to keep a watchful eye all the time; however, these recent incidents just show the importance of remaining vigilant.

“We also urge motorists to remain vigilant for child pedestrians – especially in built up areas. Children also need to pay attention and look and listen for traffic.

“Children are some of our most vulnerable road users and their safety is paramount – keeping children safe on our roads is a shared responsibility, and whilst children and young people are learning to navigate traffic safely, drivers must remain vigilant, slow down and anticipate the unpredictable movements of children.”
