A new audio ballot paper is being introduced for next month’s Senedd election 2026, aimed at making voting more accessible for blind and partially sighted people.
The initiative will provide an audio version of all parties and candidates standing in the Bangor Conwy Môn constituency, helping voters better understand their choices ahead of polling day.
The audio description is already available online via the election pages on Conwy County Borough Council’s website, offering additional support for those voting by post.
At polling stations on Thursday, 7 May, voters will also be able to access the audio ballot paper by scanning a QR code. With assistance from polling staff if needed, this will link to a bespoke recording outlining all candidates and parties in the constituency.
The system works alongside a tactile ballot paper overlay, allowing voters to match what they hear with numbered boxes using embossed and braille markings. This helps ensure they can confidently select their preferred candidate.
For those unable to use the digital option, staff at polling stations will still be on hand to read out the ballot paper and provide support where required.
The move is designed to improve accessibility and ensure more people can take part independently in the democratic process.
