A North Wales storage company is set to help put the region on the global football map this summer after being named an official partner of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
Lock Stock Self Storage will see its branding showcased to millions of viewers worldwide as some of Europe’s brightest young talents compete across four venues in North Wales. Matches will be staged at Central Park in Denbigh, Bangor City Stadium, The Oval in Caernarfon, and Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.
The tournament, which runs from June 28 to July 11, will feature host nation Wales alongside Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Spain and Ukraine, offering a glimpse of the next generation of footballing stars. Previous editions of the competition have provided a platform for future superstars including Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane.
Wales was selected to host the prestigious event during the 150th anniversary year of the Football Association of Wales, with significant investment made into infrastructure across the host venues. At Central Park in Denbigh—Lock Stock’s home town—a £2 million redevelopment has transformed the ground, including the installation of a new pitch matching the dimensions of Wembley, alongside a modern two-storey community facility.
The upgraded site now includes UEFA-standard changing rooms, dedicated referees’ facilities, office space and a contemporary kitchen, while an upstairs bar with seating for up to 100 people offers views across the pitch and the Vale of Clwyd. Two new stands have also been constructed, increasing capacity to more than 2,000 and ensuring the ground meets Cymru Premier requirements.
Lock Stock has long been a major supporter of Welsh football, having invested hundreds of thousands of pounds into the game over the past two decades, from grassroots through to the elite level. The company’s chairman, Shon Powell, who co-founded the business with his brother Nick in 2000, also serves as chairman of Denbigh Town, the club that plays at Central Park.
From its beginnings as a single site in Denbigh, Lock Stock has grown into the UK’s largest container storage company, now operating 35 locations across North Wales, the North West and Shropshire, including sites in Denbigh, Wrexham, Caernarfon and Bangor.
Shon Powell described the partnership as a proud moment for both the business and the town. He said the company was “absolutely thrilled” to be involved in the biggest football tournament ever hosted in North Wales, adding that the journey from a single storage unit to working alongside UEFA and the FAW reflected years of hard work. He said the company had played a key role in supporting the development of Central Park and was excited to now be officially part of the tournament.
His brother Nick said it was “fantastic” to see such a high-profile competition coming to the region, adding that having matches played in their home town made the occasion even more special and provided an opportunity to showcase North Wales to a global audience.
Chief Executive of the FAW, Noel Mooney, welcomed the partnership, praising Lock Stock’s passion and commitment to Welsh football. He said the involvement of a local company on such a major stage highlighted the wider impact of the tournament and would help draw international attention to the region.
Lock Stock currently operates more than 5,700 storage units, providing over five million cubic feet of space across its sites. The company estimates that around 70 per cent of its units are used by people moving house or storing personal belongings, while nearly 2,000 are rented by businesses for stock, materials and equipment.
With fixtures set to take place across Denbigh, Bangor, Caernarfon and Wrexham, organisers hope the tournament will attract large crowds and leave a lasting legacy for football in North Wales, both on and off the pitch.
