Llandudno FC are on the brink of a return to the Welsh top flight after securing a top-three finish in the JD Cymru North with a 2–1 victory over Holywell Town FC.
The win leaves the Seasiders in a strong position to be promoted to the JD Cymru Premier for the 2026/27 season, provided the club secures the required domestic Tier 1 licence from the Football Association of Wales.
Under manager Jordan Hadaway, Llandudno have enjoyed an impressive campaign and recently moved five points clear at the top of the table as they continue their push for the league title.
The FAW confirmed that for the 2025/26 season the top three clubs from both the JD Cymru North and the JD Cymru South will be promoted to a 12-team Cymru Premier, part of a wider restructuring designed to strengthen competition at the top level of Welsh football.
For Llandudno, promotion would mark a major step in the club’s resurgence following their relegation from the Cymru Premier in 2022. Since then the club has been rebuilding on and off the pitch, with Hadaway guiding a young and energetic squad into serious promotion contention this season.
The Seasiders have shown consistent form throughout the campaign, combining a solid defensive record with an attacking style that has delivered crucial wins in the promotion race. The victory over Holywell Town was another important step, ensuring Llandudno could not be pushed out of the top three as the season enters its final stages.
While promotion now looks increasingly likely, the club’s ambitions remain higher. Hadaway’s side are targeting the league title rather than simply securing one of the promotion places.
Elsewhere in the division, several clubs have also been involved in the battle near the top of the table. Among them are sides such as Airbus UK Broughton FC and Bangor 1876 FC, both of whom have been strong contenders in recent seasons and are among those competing for promotion places.
From the south of the country, leading clubs in the JD Cymru South will also step up to the Cymru Premier under the FAW’s expanded promotion system, ensuring six teams in total move into the top tier ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
For supporters in North Wales, a return to the Cymru Premier would bring top-flight football back to the town and restore Llandudno to the level where the club enjoyed several seasons of success earlier in the decade, including memorable European qualifying matches at their home ground, Maesdu Park.
With the promotion place now secured on the pitch, attention will turn to the final weeks of the season as Llandudno aim to finish the job by lifting the JD Cymru North title.
