Heavy rain to follow in North Wales after Scotland hit hard

Multiple warnings for heavy rain and strong winds are in place thanks to the arrival of Storm Babet from Friday morning in North West Wales.

The latest storm is expected to bring exceptional rainfall and impactful wind for some.

In some parts of the UK, red warnings mean that the weather poses a severe risk to life. Heavy rain is already covering parts of the east of Scotland, including Brechin, Forfar and Kirriemuir. Winds on Thursday afternoon were recorded at 77 miles per hour in some parts.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said:  "Parts of Scotland will see exceptional amounts of rainfall over the next few days and the significant accumulations are likely to cause considerable impacts from Storm Babet."

In North West Wales on Friday from 6am until 6am Saturday, the weather is not expected to be quite as extreme but neverthless, a yellow warning exists with a risk of flooding, surface water and some possible disruption to public transport. The counties affected include Flintshire, Wrexham, Denbighshire, Conwy, Anglesey and Gwynedd.

In North West England a more severe amber warning for rain is in place for same period in parts of Chester, Cheshire  and Holt.
