Colwyn Bay looks to new operator to successfully run market

A new operator has been sought to run the Colwyn Bay Market after the previous licence holder pulled the plug on their Saturday and Tuesday operation leaving the town without a bustling place for shoppers and the community to meet.

Conwy County Borough Council have announced today that they are seeking an operator with a commitment to providing excellent customer-focused services and has a good working knowledge of relevant statutory legislation.

The Colwyn Bay market has permission to be run seven days a week all year round depending on the operator’s future plan.

Planning permission for continued use of Station Road and Seaview Road in Colwyn Bay as an open air market is in place until 2027

A council spokesperson said: "We are seeking £150 pcm / £1,800 per annum and additional charges may apply. The market is perfectly placed, within a two minute walk of Colwyn Bay train station and benefits from being just off the A55 expressway offering easy access to both local residents, and visitors.

"It is the aspiration that the Colwyn Bay market management will deliver a 'Best in Class’ service providing innovative ways to develop, grow and operate general markets alongside street trading activities and events.

"We are looking for interested applicants to apply with a sound business proposal, evidencing that their skills, knowledge and experience can meet the high aspirations of the authority and local community."
