Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is urging people to reject the proposed Glyndŵr National Park. The 12-week consultation initiated by Natural Resources Wales is open for public input until December 8th.

Mr. Millar insists that the park's boundaries align with existing areas of natural beauty, and that local councils should manage it instead of a new authority.

In his own response, he has called for the proposals as they currently stand to be scrapped.

Mr. Millar said: “As many people will know, I've always been in favour of the principle of establishing a new national park in North East Wales but I cannot support the proposals which are currently on the table. 

“My support has always been conditional on two things.

“Firstly, that the boundaries of a new national park should be aligned with the existing Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

“And secondly, that rather than establish a new expensive and bureaucratic National Park Authority, the Welsh Government should give local councils and councillors, who are directly accountable to those they serve, the responsibility for managing the National Park designation, as is currently the case for the AONB. 

“The proposals out for consultation do not meet these conditions so, on that basis, they must be rejected.” 

Members of the public, organisations and stakeholders are encouraged to attend an event, examine the proposal and have their say by responding to the consultation.

Responses must be received no later than the closing date of December 8th.
